    I've always thought it was because "mélodie de vie" is more understandable for English speakers, the "c'est la vie" expression is quite common, I guess ^^' . Is it this that you mean by "making the song sound more English"? I didn't notice the "Amélie m'a dit" reference, though, I've got no damn idea why not o_O .
