Default How to cut and add video scenes?

I want to cut some of the scenes from certain videos and then put some other instead of the old ones.Or just to add some video material on the existing video (divx,avi,dvd...any),but I don't know what software/programmes to use and how.
So I was hoping someone can help and give any hint (better tutorial,in details! )?

Well, of course something prosumer like Final Cut or Adobe Primer would be best! But if you're looking for quick solutions, you could try Virtualdub... it's kinda complex, and I don't know it well enough to help you. If you want something simpler, you could try the splitters and joiners on these sites:

Ok,I have tried "Easy video splitter" (the link is:http://www.doeasier.org/),but I have to say that I don't like it.
I can't cut it exactly from the part I would like and the picture can sometimes be late comparing to the audio (especially if you cut it from the middle),so I wouldn't recommend it at all!!!!
I still haven't tried the others...

Easy video splitter 2.01 is better than the previous ones. You need to play the video, then just before you want to split it, hit the first marker... then wait untill you want to finish splitting it, hit the second marker, then click split.

Its much better than the other versions.

I think that WAS the version I used, although I will have to check.I did all that, but it has problems with marking the frames (actually,it doesn't mark frames at all-it marks something else, but I didn't remember what-I'll check tomorrow). But again,I will have to check.

yeah ok, pm me for any help, because with that program, you muist watch the video then mark the first frame.. wait untill you want to end it, then mark the seconds frame then click split. If you click split before, or pause it, or rewind it, it won't split properly.

mladjazekic, I know with the video you're trying to cut that there is something weird with the vbr audio stream, which causes those delays you speak of... when I worked on it, I had to do a complete re-encode of the entire file before it would work correctly. Let me know in a PM what you're trying to do now, and I'll see what can be done.

I Recommend you try Tmpgenc plus 2.5

    trial download http://tmpgenc.pegasys-inc.com/en/download/tp.html
    fully functional for limited time

Then you could add the M2V.VFP Plugin. if you don't mind spending some money you could purchase the latest versions

this site is great for learning http://www.videohelp.com/

    TMPGEnc isn't really editing software.

    It's encoder.

(even tho it can do MPEG re- and demultiplexing and simple cuts.)

    edit:

Platonic, I just remembered that I forgot answer this question in the PM I sent... :p Soo... I'll answer here and now.

If you want free editor, then maybe something like VirtualDubMod would go. It's not best for editing, but with decent user it can offer amazing quality. It's often used with AviSynth which offers great deal of extra functions to use, through it's scripting engine. But it's not really for kids, it's complex system, so you need to know little bit what you are doing.

For real editors, there's something like Adobe Premiere (Elements) for example. But it's quite expensive software (Premiere Elements being little cheaper).

Avid Free DV was free editor, but it no longer exists. If you can find old version, then you should be good to go. It's commercial version of course is still around.

Tmpgenc is good to put the video you want to work with in a useable format, then you can open it with whatever program you want including transsitional editors and dvd authoring programs.
We all know 80% of the alizee videos need 2 can openers and a corkscrew to be opened in a commercial program

Cool, I've never thought the 2 and half years old thread will be resurrected !

Anyway, this is good. I think someone who has enough knowledge, patience, will and time (above all) should make a tutorial on a certain program of his own choice. It can be very useful because I believe there are people who are very creative, but not good enough in video editing. Besides, that is something we all use here almost everyday, so it wouldn't be a bad idea to try and do something like that for the rest of the people.

    Just a suggestion, that's all...
