UEDS and past present and future . . . again.

Rate this Entry
I think that for our next fan meeting, we should stake out all the major corners of Paris, and do a little questionaire of the people on the street: "Have you heard Alizèe's latest album, and if so what do you think of it, and the new Alizèe?" again

I`ve talked enough about all this but . . . .

As with all major artists, at one point, they all want to be or remain `megastars,` even Alizèe.

Her current status cannot be quantified in terms of her leaving MF or even of her abandoning the Lolita image and style. That whole era was like a black whole where everything was cherry coloured in lolitaness. I am trying to say that she was in a situation that could only exist in a specified period of time . . . that could not last no matter what MF or Lili could've done about it, or tried to do!

I think that the French did not ask for an Alizèe we know now, yet they gladly accepted the Lolita (specifically `Moi Lolita`) they recieved. Spoiled, almost. We have enough `generic` aritists scrambling for a bit of the big apple, or to make quiet art in some corner of the world for themselves, as Alizèe is NOW doing! That`s all there is to it . . . nothing more and nothing less. No big explanation or thesis on what happened to her career. No need for thoughts of `promotional breakdowns` even.

Right now she is dpoing something she loves, yet is also lacking something she loves . . . . the performances. I am pretty sure that if she rented out a small establishment where people could sit down and have a drink while listening to her album live . . some mellow place with soft lighting, like a 70s bar etc, then she could be getting soome of that back.

BUT there is MORE to all this than the deafening silence we are experiencing . . . . with a dwindling album and nonexistent sales, WHY would a label NOT see and take notice of what went down in Mexico for Psychèdèlices and WHy would she not be there already . . no matter what we think we know or have heard somewhere, as the case may be . . . WHy is there no last ditch effort?

Well, these are the things that entrap fans into missing the bigger picture . . becasue aftert all is said and done, that^ big pocket of Gourmandises was a shocking surprise, and was too much to fill again with something different, no matter where in the world fans would be going crazy, like in Meixco. People did not really ask for JPVA, and when they recieved single it was like, "oh
thanks! That's nice. You are trying to extend the Gourmandises thesis. That's nice."

Different pocket, or black whole . . . a different surprise that nobody asked for and when they got it, the same effect and emotions as Gourmandises could not be duplicated. Even before she left MF things were going downhill, and the fact that she had a good time with En COncert was really a novelty of FINALLY seeing what she was like in concert! THAT was the thing that created another pocket for her, but one that would be short lived. MY only regret is that AMD did not get its time in the spotlight . . . . because it was too late . . that things went another way BEHIND the scenes and ON the scene for a while prior.

So all this talk about Mexico and about promotion . . . it is all for nothing. I was also upset at the lack of promotion, but that was not the case really . . . she got her share of magazines and some TV ads. The rest was out of her hands, as much as a small struggling artists could take or dish.

So, I don't regret anything. She is my Lili . . I saw this commiong a mile away even though I kept on saying thigns would get better. Behind the scenes I told somebody that I saw bad times for her ahead.

But I think that even that is uncalled for now: she is a small artist that is making records, and we must stop sweating over promotional distress, etc. We just want her to be in the spotlight no matter how small an artist she is, I guess.

Maybe that long break after MCE did break some backs (for sure)!! THAT was the turning point. For all those that lived that era, they have another way of seeing things. Even so, STILL . . . I would've loved to see what would've happened if she would've stayed with MF and LB ( let's not forget his sound) for that 3rd album. Many fans would probably have been silenced about the " leaving MF" argument, maybe. Or it would've done a better than Psych did due to the MF factor . . . . but to what extent? a continuation of MCE, even more mature still, as witnessed betweeen the first 2 albums.

Mylene wanted a specific thing when she first signed Alizèe . . . it`s not that she could not see herself doing another 3 albums with Lili, but it would come to a point where after she reached a certain age, and the experiment acquired different ingredients, MF could be performing those songs herself! The specificity and marketing of Gourmandises was enormous! It was a one time thing that could not be carried forward without it getting diluted.

I guess it`s all this and more^^^^^^ as many of you have some noticeable points., and no matter what I say or you guys say about UEDS, it should be doing much better than it is now, no matter what style it is. It will be interesting to see when/IF another single gets released, at this point, much less another album, perhaps. That's what fans think about in such times. I am loyal to her to militant status perhaps, but when an album is bad or a song is bad or a dress is bad or performance is bad, I will say it. I spoke about what I hate about UEDS and what I love about it. Her career is in her hands, and I hope she keeps offering us her time and music.
