So there I was on a train with my ex gf'd heading to Paris from the south of France.
We didn't know anyone, and although most people we had run across in France up to that point had been very friendly and polite, we really hadn't had much of an opportunity to strike up any type of conversation more than a few sentences long with anyone.
Along came Stephen, this cool dude who although seemed to be on a 2 day bender, seemed like a nice guy. We started talking about the weather, then where we were from, then where we were going, you know, the normal stuff.
Stephen then asked if we would like to share a bottle of his grandmother's homemade wine. Who were we to say no!? Ha, it was a long ride to Paris still, and sounded like fun.
Out came the wine, and although not a big fan I am, it was better than good! It tasted awesome....if this is what homemade wine tastes like...I need some!
So we all continued to talk and after we thanked him yet again for his generosity, this nice French fellow Stephen explained that he was very happy to share with us because as he said.....
"Americans are extremely generous people and have always been very generous to me ."
....I thanked him very much for saying that, telling him that made me feel very good, and that most people I had met in France had been quite polite and nice to me up to this point as well. I would let him know this would be my first taste of French generosity.
We started to talk about world issues, mostly the generosity of people around the world, especially Americans, as he kept saying. We talked sports, movies, etc. It was just great getting to know Stephen. Well we parted ways after a bottle or two....feeling much happier than we were before. And it wasn't just from the wine.
I'll never forget Stephen or his generosity, friendliness and for just being a nice person.

My apologies for not being able to post in French.
