View Full Version : Yopidou! English Lyric

Bard

Hi, as the subject says I'm looking for "Yopidou!" lyric, English version. I managed to find one but it looks a bit weird and I'm not sure it's exact... so if someone has it, could you please post it here? I don't mean the translation of the french one, but the english version.

And maybe, explain it a bit? Mylene's texts are always a bit "cryptic" and being in English don't help.....

Thanx!

Ok, I got it the best way :)

This morning I bought "Mes courants eletriques" and while reading the booklet I happened to read the text of the English version of "Yopidou". Well, I got a little disappointed..... first, because it has no similarities with the french version (well, the two are completely different)..... and second, Am I the only one who sees a *little* sexual connotation? I know that Mylene Farmer is famous for this but this one seems a little exxagerated, IMHO. I mean.... "The importan thing is that you got something under" ..... mhhh..... or "You can't live without it, you want me to prove it, oh i fall to my knees" or something similar.... now, Am I the maniac or does anyone agree with me? If someone can explain what the meaning of the song is I'd really appreciate it.

Thanx in advance

Ciao!

The sexual connotation seems clear Bard but why did you say that you're disapointed? .. Mylène Farmer likes to play with that and it's always a pleasure to decipher her songs... She has made songs about sodomia ("pourvu qu'elles soient douces"), masturbation and many others about sexuality .. But it was missing something to be complete.. I just hope that Alizée realized what she was talking about in this song  ..

well seen the fact that 'our' girl isn't stupid at all, and seems to like to fool with people, so also with us probably, I think she knows damn well what she is talking about in the song! 8)

J'en ai marre translated:

(source: Alizée Translated (http://www.moi-alizee.org/songtext/emarre.html))

---

I've got a soft skin (Yes, very soft to the touch.)

...

I splash myself a little (I splash my... (substitute it).)

...

My fish moves (My 'fish' moves really good.)

...

I blow bubbles in the shadow (I'm totally bubbly.)

...

The extremists of two bullets (Those extremists with two balls and with a big stick.)

...

I'm lying And I relax (And I light a cigarette.)

...

It's there like a hiccup (It sounds like a hiccup, or a little moan.)

And about her fish that change from time to time:

Mon poisson rouge (1st mistranslated version: My red 'fish'!)

Mon poisson rouge (2nd intermediate version: My goldfish. - It's like gold, She's brighten it more often.)

Mon poisson bouge (3rd official? version: My 'fish' moves. - Yes, it moves, if She moves it.)

I'm sorry!

I usually appreciate Mylene's double senses in the song. I know every song has two different meanings, it seems to talk about something while it talks also about something else. I always liked it, because it was really hironical and the double senses where well hided in the song text. Also, they were damn sexy.

But the point is, Youpidou hasn't a double meaning. It has only one and that's the sexual one. Also, I find it vulgar and exxagerated. It's like good humor and bad one. Good humor, even sexual related one, is funny and appreciable. Bad one is full of bad words and isn't funny at all. This is the feeling toward this song.

If I were Alizèe, probably I'd refuse to sing a song like this. Yeah, she said she doesn't care about double meanings, but this seems just too much. Also, I have the feeling that the song doesn't belong to the album. Other song talks about her and her feelings. This one doesn't. It doesn't belong to Alizèe at all. In fact, it's only an English remake of the original french song that talks about something completely different.

Pah, shame :\

Yeah, thanx for your feedback. Now, can you go wanking somewhere else?

Seems that some of you just can't avoid making pervert comments, uh?

C.P.A.
30th April 2003, 21:17
Wanking is not even a word so what are u talking about?

Next to that I wonder if you actually know what the word pervert means!

So be smart and don't criticize too much!

PS * Only do criticize when I am in a good mood

Bard

Wanking= masturbating, in case you don't know. I'm not explaining the meaning of "pervert" here, but there are plenty of good dictionaries out there. Go buy one and make yourself more acculturate.

Greetings.

No I did not know that and so didn't my dictionary, and then about the word pervert, my mistake .. I looked the word up on the net and found out that is possible.. sorry!

Btw: I found this btw: http://www.nerfherder.net/pervert.htm might be nice ;)

Like I said yesterday I was in a pretty bad mood.. So I am sorry!

I hope you are able to imagine that sometimes I am not able to keep my mouth shut and do some stupid things

From a non-sexual point of view, the song is about a guy who wants a girlfriend as something that is his posession. He wants a girl he can hold under his thumb and who goes down on her knees to worship him. That is technically what she is singing, and that is why she sings One day i'm gone...

Otherwise the song is about fucking and blowjobs, and in that case i am seriously dissapointed in the vulgar and slutty attitude of this song, wich even goes beyond a line like "I'm a slave for you"

I get the feeling that what Alizee is trying to say in her songs, is that she just wants to be fucked but she doesn't want any emotional relationship with a boy.

That's the general message in her songs, and it makes you wonder about her real personality...

We shall never know her real personality... Never forget that she might

"knows damn well what she is talking about in the song" but the lyrics

hasn't been written by her. A short time ago I've started to looking at

Alizée in two ways: Alizée the singer, who works hard to success, and

who has driven by her managers. And Lili the beautiful person, whom

I can dream about. So I'll never be disappointed.

C.P.A.
5th May 2003, 11:34
me neither .. nevertheless I like the songs .. I have my own point of view to look to songs.. not really willing to share :S anyway once there will come a day that I will get to know her ;) that's a fact lol

5th May 2003, 14:47
EXTRA INFO: YOU WANT ME TO GET DOWN ON MY KNEES is meant to be romantic peotry. She doesn't really meen anything sexual. I just heard a very romantic song from Janis Ian that my mother wanted me to hear after i asked her her opinion about Alizée's text.

Janis Ian sings: I get down on my knees, and try so hard to please.

Alizée sings: You can't live without it, and want me to proove it! Want me to get down on my knees! Oh youpidoo.

Alizée's English Youpidoo is about a guy who lost Alizee because he can't controle her.

"Getting down on my knees" is supposed to be poetic or a romantic confession of giving yourself completely for a person, or to be submissive. Now, if you think that what Alizée is singing referes to oral sex, then Janis Ian's version is a lot worse!

wow - lol - I agree with u totally!

Bard
5th May 2003, 17:33
Let me add something.

I don't think that we can know Alizèe's personality from her songs. First of all, she doesn't write them. Second, she already said she doesn't care about double meanings. And, most important, I always tought that a song is for a singer what a movie is for an actor. So, do we have to blame Julia Roberts as a bitch (sorry for the bad word) just because she did "Pretty Woman"? No. And in the same way there's no way to blame Alizèe, even if the song has a sexual meaning (which I frankly doubt, ATM).

Last thing: Her songs are made to be sold. The more the people appreciate them, the more will be sold. And sex has always been a great way to turn on people's attention.

Well, I believe that Youpidoo refers to the boy that she lost her virginity to. This will make more sense to the users of the Hey Amiga! forum but I'm not registered there, so what the hell. If you were unaware that she lost her virginity then check out the other forum: http://www.moonlight-reflections.com/alizee/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=179&start=0

and remember to keep breathing! It's a bit of a shock I know. It has already been decided that the single Gourmandises refers to her first time, but I think Youpidoo is more explicit. I'll give you guys some time to read the other forum and get used to the idea before I present you with the reasons for why I think this. I hope this is understandable, but I'm supposed to be revising for an A-level exam tomorrow so it's a bit rushed!

OK here's the evidence, I've written my interpretation of the lyrics in brackets after some line where I believe the reference is clear. I've only done the English lyric yet, but I've spotted a few lines on the French lyric that also hint towards this lucky guy!

Youpidoo

Youpidoo

I'll remember you, oh [not forgotten the guy]

Youpidoo

Still be holding you, oh [still has feelings for him]

Youpidoo

Gee, it's a lot to do!

Give me "two"

I'll see what I can do [ahem, I think we know what she means!]

Youpidoo

You've got to remember

Youpidoo

It won't last for ever [they broke up after all]

Youpidoo

So what really matters

Is that you

Got some... something under... [it's important for the guy that he got laid before the break-up]

One day I'm gone! Today I ache [she sore down below after her first time!]

Three days of something much too fake

I see you talking to the bees!!! [talking to the Bs (the boys??), bragging about his conquest??]

All my goodbyes. Signed with no kiss [she's pissed-off with him for it]

One day I'm gone. Today's a loss

Fried days of something that I lost [she's pissed 'cos of the time she wasted on him]

You see me walking down the streets

I walk away. Youpidoo, day [she's glad to be leaving him]

Youpidoo

There's no doubt about it

Youpidoo

You can't live without it [he's obsessed with sex]

Youpidoo

You want me to prove it!

Want me to

Get down on my knees! Oh... [fellatio again!]

Youpidoo

You feel brokenhearted [he's sorry for bragging]

Youpidoo

Life is so unstarted [she understands why he did it though]

Youpidoo

We were good together [he's good in the sack!]

Mon chouchou

Don't say never, ever!!! [maybe there's still hope for the relationship??]

Maybe I have a dirty mind, or maybe I have a point please tell me :?

I may have time to do the French lyric tonight but maybe not :(

Sorry, Parler, but I think your interpretation is a bit overboard! I don't disagree that there are sexual connotations, but in every line? No way!

parlertoutbas
19th June 2003, 07:37
OK I understand what you mean, some of my interpretations were over-zealous (especially "Today I ache"), but I didn't say there were sexual connotations in every line. Some of my interpretations refer to the status of their relationship, Alizée's changing feelings about the guy and his behaviour. One piece of evidence that the song is about when she was deflowered is in the first two lines of the French version:

Youpidou

J'ai quitté l'école (I've left school)

Now if memory serves, Alizée left school around the time of the Moi Lolita release, which is also the time she lost her virginity! Here's the link to the English translation of the Yam! interview where she talks about her first time, please pay particular attention to the question "Are you still friends?", as the response is quite relevant to "J'ai quitté l'école"
