Recently, there have been several posts, most with Britney Spears or Shakira in the topic title, that are entirely inappropriate and contain a possibly malicious link. In all likelihood, this is a spam-bot that automatically registers and posts these messages. We are currently working on ways to prevent this from happening, but in the meantime, you may still see those messages appearing. We will delete these messages as soon as possible; your posts reports have been extremely helpful with this. So thanks to those who have sent post reports and please keep sending them if you see more of these messages. And please don't post replies in the thread as it will only attract more unneeded attention to it. Thanks again and we hope to have the situation resolved very soon.

One note to add: obviously don't click any of these links, though if you already have, immediately run a system wide virus and adware scan just to be safe. Grisoft offers free antivirus and antispy software at http://free.grisoft.com/.

One question: these topics are only in English section ??
They can appear in any section. But looks like this bot spams mostly in Alizée Discussion section.

try to start your system of a date on which u had no probs with virus etc.
I used "Systemwiederherstellung" (<=Ger,sry I dont know the Eng word)
ur system gets rebooted with the things of this date.
=>I used 2,Nov06 because on this date I installed a game and u need something like that to reboot it with clean Data.
The virus wasnt on ur PC on this Date so he's deleted,
on this way I removed 1203Critical System Errors, which "U can only remove
with THIS spyware" which costs between 30 and 60€ ;-)
@SwistaQ: They appeared also in Germon sections

Well as mentioned AVG is good one and I believe the free version is 7.5 now, I used to use this, but it does not protect against spyware which can allow additional trojans in, so if you use this mjake sure you keep windows firewall on and have spyware software such as spyblaster or another free software to protect you from spyware.

McAfee in my opinion is by far the best anti-virus program out there. Of course it's not free but there are ways to get around that. *cough*bittorrent*cough*

May I also add that if you guys see a thread with a suspicious title with "porn" etc . . . don't even enter the thread because maybe the person wants to see those number of visitors even though no one posts. If I see any suspicious threads I will report it . . . or maybe there should be someone assigned to look out for that so that poeple can rest assured.
Just a thought, because this person is unrelenting . . .the less attention, the better; even if it means paying attention to the visitor number to the specific thread. the less viewers to the thread, the better! Totally ignored!

If it's a spam bot, which seems very likely, then there is no person posting those posts but rather a computer controlled by a person who probably set it up to attack many sites. I'm sure the computer doesn't care about view count and the person behind it either. All they want is to trick you into downloading their spyware. People should open the thread so that it gets reported and taken care of asap just don't click on any links in that thread.

Can't we just change the registeration process, so that there is a seeries of numbers/letters that has to be copied out, just liked they do in yahoo and rapidfile. A bot shouldn't be able to register then should they, as you would need a human to imput the letters and numbers.
Just an idea

That's true but I am not sure that this si the same case. In mt ignorance, I don't see how a computer can register on a site like this . . . being ablke to post messages etc.
@ AlphaDevil:
that's a very good idea, but maybe Riccardo can't do it unless the forum designers (software providers) make the change. . . not sure how that works, though.

There already is a confirmation code for you to look at and then type it in when you register.

Looking at the spam posts, I highly doubt it is a spam bot. But more some guy getting a kick out of it. Only way to get around this deleting posts and user, then blocking ip. But there is always ways aroud it.
Making the mods actually go thru every account to activate wont help, how can you tell if some one is who they are or not?? You cant on the net.

You should download all of the files that have to do with this forum off your web server and save it to your hard drive. Then setup web server software like apache on your computer and then do all of your testing and upgrades on your computer. Once your satisfied with the results just copy and paste everything back onto the online web server. This should save you alot of headaches and prevent the forum from going down. Recently I haven't noticed any spam but it's still possible for it to happen again.

Do u have anything against spambots on a register page ?
If u don't than I can reccomend u one thing !
In one forum a member which I am, we did it like this :
In a register page we added one text field where user should enter certain phrase !
In that forum it's the address of that forum like http://forum.platinum.uz and in a description we wrote "please enter the address of this forum !"
And from that time there was no bots at all !!!
If I couldn't explain it than just go to that forum and try to register u'll see it by urself !
The forum address is http://forum.platinum.uz/
I hope that this will help u !
