Just been reading all this fuss about the cartoons that were published in a News Paper in Denmark, depicting an so called 'anti' muslim images.

Whats your thoughts?

Some background on the publising on the pictures:

"On September 17, 2005, the Danish newspaper Politiken ran an article under the headline "Dyb angst for kritik af islam"[2] ("Deep fear of criticism of Islam"). The article discussed the difficulty encountered by the writer Kåre Bluitgen, who was initially unable to find an illustrator who was prepared to work with Bluitgen on his children's book "Koranen og profeten Muhammeds liv" ("The Qur'an and the prophet Muhammad's life"). Three artists declined Bluitgen's proposal before an artist agreed to assist anonymously. According to Bluitgen:

One [artist declined], with reference to the murder in Amsterdam of the film director Theo van Gogh, while another [declined, citing the attack on] the lecturer at the Carsten Niebuhr Institute in Copenhagen. [In October 2004, a lecturer was assaulted by five assailants who opposed the lecturer's reading of the Qur'an to non-Muslims during a lecture at the Niebuhr institute at the University of Copenhagen[3]].
The refusal of the first three artists to participate was seen as evidence of self-censorship and led to much debate in Denmark, with other examples for similar reasons soon emerging. There comes to a point where freedom of expression comes a bit too far. Can't those editors have a bit of empathy and know that their offensive content will cause nothing but trouble?

Well i guess it's hard for us to understand since we don't take our religion that seriously, most of us. But think of this.. i mean the people in middle-east have suffered in the past and some are still suffering.. And.. well.. they just like put all they got on their beliefs... and i guess.. well the sad thing is.. when a small group gets offended a chainreaction starts and the anger spreads..

It's hard for us to comprehend.. because we have better living conditions than some places in middle-east...

I mean how many would have been offended if someone posted pics like that of Jesus or something? Prolly those who take the religion über serious.. and we usually find those, in places that doesn't do that well..

And since we have freedom of speech it shouldn't be a problem.. but in these times when relations between muslims and the western world is tense... well.. it isn't a good time at all.....

I'm sure they do. We just don't care enough to ever see it. There are charicatures and comics depicting God and Jesus here all the time, and in a negative way, but I don't get pissed off about it. Basically Denmark has just exposed them to be the cretins they are.

Just ask yourself: Would you feel safer as a Dane walking down the streets of Tehran or as a Muslim walking down the streets of Copenhagen...in any situation? I think the answer sums it all up.

I think European kindness is going to come back and bite them in the arse. The number of Muslim/Arab imigrates in European countries is going to boil over and similar riots that France/Australia had will become common place. I think muslims need to know about freedom of speech, newspapers can publish really what they want, attacking the governments of these New papers isnt going to acheive much, if any thing. And if the Governments do apologize they they are weak and we all might aswell give up our free Speech and give into any demands the Muslims want!!

He says Muslins, not some extremists, flew the airplanes into the Twin Towers.
hmmm....so how do we describe other religions?
Christians, not the KKK, lynch people and burn them at stakes.

I think there would be uproar within the Christian community as well.

Stereotyping by religion is a bad thing in the first place. After all, more than half of the world's population is of one religioin or another. Doing so will unnecessarily infuriate many people.

I am an athiest. I think Danes went a bit far on cartoons. This isn't a debate about wether free speech is right. (It certainly is) It is a matter of respect for other people's beliefs but mainly a thing of respect.

Have Empathy.

I don't believe the newspapers needed to publish those cartoons. It is not like it is some important revelation that everyone needs to know (like a country that practices cannibalism or something)

what gave you the impression i was outraged by the pictures? i was only outraged by the comments people here made, i couldn't care less about the pictures. I just said it was unwise in making them because of the consequences. Clearly you misunderstood me due to English not being your primary language.
