Hi
For anyone who uses usenet, alt.binaries.alizee is now available on Giganews and Easynews. We are currently posting some Alizee fan dvds to this newsgroup for any one who is interested. These dvds can also be found in the Alizee DC++ hub, and indeed, that is were these discs originate from. Hope this info is of use to any one who has probs with DC++ and would like these discs.

Nope, nothing to do with mIRC. Firstly you'll need a subscription to a premium news service ie, Giganews or Easynews. You'll also need a news reader program, such as Newsleecher, Newsbin Pro or Forte Agent. Once you are armed with these the sky is the limit as to what you can d/load. Another good thing about usenet is the speed you'll be able to d/load at, you'll very likely max out yor d/load speed as your not d/loading from another person ala p2p but from a central server much like you would e-mail. Of course to get what you want you're somewhat dependant on someone else posting to this central server or servers, in the case of giganews and easynews, but you can always post a request for what you want to the relevant newsgroup, and mostly you'll find peeps willing to help you out. There's some decent stuff being posted in alt.binaries.alizee (which is the name of the newsgroup), and I just thought peeps might be interested.

There might actually be a lot of potential to this. The fact that you get fast download speeds already makes it as attractive an option if not more so than the DC++ hub as far as sharing Alizee videos is concerned. Some files are rare, but usually because of geographic concerns, getting those files is a painfully slow process. Nevermind the fact that the individual might have a very long queue.

The main aim of getting the newsgroup up and running is to try and get more Alizee to more people :D. Already there are 2 fan dvds on there and some performance vids and the aim is to get as much fan stuff in the group as possible. We DO NOT intend to post anything commercial, such as her music albums or En Concert DVD, We only wanna share Music vids, performance vids and of course pics. The newsgroup has been created not as a competitor to the DC hub, more as a compliment to it.

The group used to be quite active in the past... But it died long ago. :(

Nice to see someone is actually trying to bring it back to live.

Practically all ISPs offers news server for free. You don't need these third party news servers.

Whilst it's true that many ISPs offer news servers, if your ISP is anything like most in the UK they probably won't offer all the newsgroups available and almost certainly won't have the retention or completeness of a Premium news server. Giganews currently have 70 day retention on binary newsgroups. If your ISP can offer anything near that your very lucky. My ISP in the UK (NTL) suffers from many incomplete posts and a retention which is nearer 3 days than 3 months.

The most important thing is completeness of a post and IMO a premium news server is the best way to guarantee this.
