Hey guys, I am just trying to find a good program that I can record my desktop in video format. I currently use windows media encoder but when trying to make High quality videos my computer goes into 100% CPU usage and with such a slowdown I can't record what I am trying to do. Anyone know of any good software programs out there to record a certain running application or my desktop or something.

Most of them uses lots of CPU power anyways. It's the resolution that is problem. Encoding video on the fly with good frame rate even at 640x480 resolution is very, very CPU intensive job. And not to even mention resolutions like 1600x1200 or more. They simply kills your computer.

Don't know any better program it for, tho. If I'd be you I'd use google to find some. :)

It's not cheap, but Camtasia (http://www.techsmith.com/products/studio/default.asp) might suit your needs. The same company's SnagIt (http://www.techsmith.com/products/snagit/default.asp) software, while primarily used for screen captures, can also capture video or any movement on your desktop, but at a much lower quality than that of Camtasia. It is a lot cheaper though.

Camtasia is a good prog for windows use. But if you record games (or any other fullscreen progs that use graphic) I recomend fraps.
