What do you guys think:

Should I get the Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe and the AMD X2 CPU or wait until the second half of '06 for the new release of the M2 CPU that will be 939pin and 1206pin (server - opteron). ( all current AMD cpus will be converted to M2)

The reason I ask is that if I buy the MOBO now, then it will be obsolete in '06 due to the M2 CPU. The M2 CPU will lead to quad core CPUs :bounce:

What to do . . . what do do?!?!?!

I would go for M2, because the newest must be the best now, until a new and better release.

I know, but I jsut want to upgrade my comp so badly, that it is hard for me to wait. I need the upgrade to do some video editing, and now that this news has come out (about the M2), I am happy yet upset that I have to wait another 6-8 months before I can upgrade. Sometimes I wish tech was not so susceptible to fast advancements in computer engineering . . . as soon as you upgrade, 6 months down the road it will become almost obsolete

Obsolete? You must leave this performance obsession behind (I have a friend who's obsessed with upgrading his comp. to the latest and best releases). I tell you that you can have performance even without M2. We are talking about socket A 939 Opteron.

haha, I guess I am obsessed. Right now I have something that looks like a jet engine cooling my CPU and I am dying to switch over to "phase change" cooling :bounce: (sub zero temps  )

I know that this can almost be characterized as a disease, but I just love having a powerful comp. Your friend would understand . . . :doc:

My friend does understand. And I call it a passion for high-end computer systems. :cheesy:

It is a very expensive passion, no doubt. Ask yourt friend to check out the new Thermaltake "Tai-Chi" high end case, for starters.

 If I'll show him that, he will end up working with those guys at Tom's Hardware. :P Yeah, I'll make sure he'll check it out.

haha, as soon as I saw it, I started imagining what can go into it . . . all good things . . .

Well, I am off. C U guys in the funny papers!

heh, im in the same spot as you. I looking to upgrade my computer but I dont want to risk my money on something that might become obsolete quick. I plan on building my new dream computer sometime next year but it tempting to start now. CRAP!!!
And that Thermaltake Tai Chi is looking sexy as hell. Too bad I already have a case and I don't want to waste my money on another one.

YEah, next yr will be the year of the dream PC for me. I will wait and see what hapens with M2 and asus . . . When the time comes, maybe we should discuss it and give each other pointers on upgrading . . . heck why not . . . I want to know if the other guy knows something I don't. MAybe start a thread when the time comes . . . I am seriously going to build a monster

If you need more power then upgrade now. If you don't need more power then upgrade later. It's simple as that. THere's no point waiting new tech to hit market as it will hit the markets all the time.

If you wait the 6 months to get socket AM2 prosessor (yes, not M2 but AM2. It was renamed some time ago), you'll notice that something else is coming after it and you'll be again in point where to decide if you want to wait or not and if you decide wait some more you'll be stuck with your old underpowered system even longer...

I wait to AM2(amd was change name of a socket) because the 939 there will be economic platform.
And i wait for GF7900 because 7800 series price will go down .

What do you think about Ageia PhysX?

X_x DDR2 They are not better od DDR.....
Platform has come my:
Asus A8n-SLI Premium/A32N(Nvidia SLI 16x chipset)
Amd athlon 64 4600/4800+ X2
DDR:Hmm As it cheapen i buy 4x512 Two-channel DDR,or 2x/4x 1GB Two-channel.
HDD:Samsun SpinPoitn SP240C
GPU:Geometry Force 7800GT
AOC LCD 8ms,DVI,17'

I repeat:What do you think about Ageia PhysX?

Top Secret Intel Processor Plans Uncovered

4 Dec 2005 13:29
Intel plans to unleash the first quad core CPU (Kentsfield) within one year. The switch to 45 nm in 2007 will enable eight cores and up to 12 MB L2 cache (Yorkfield) per CPU. We x-rayed the complete CPU roadmap. :doc:

@ RMJ: M2, AM2, it is even know by a more technical name blah blah blah . . . it's the M2 from AMD (as stated before). . . . and everybody knows. In other words . . .

I am going to assemble my comp at the end of 2006, beginnig of 2007 . . . if they plan to release a 4core cpu then maybe ASUS might come up with a special MOBO. But, yeah, there is always something new just around the corner, as I said before, and it gets annoying . . . yet exciting . . . I feel like I am in a pair of doxes
