Decided to try something new for awhile...

There's few very nice black & white photos of Lili. Wondered how they might look when colored. (There's actually color photos of same session, so strictly speaking I know how they would look like but I wanted to make my own versions.)

I'm not gonna bore you with more boring details... So here is the photo:
http://img473.imageshack.us/img473/1615/rmjalizeecoloredhq0986ue.th.jpg (http://img473.imageshack.us/my.php?image=rmjalizeecoloredhq0986ue.jpg)
It's 50% of original size. I will give out the full resolution later. :) I also got rid of some grain in the photo, but not all (didn't want to lose any details).

And small reference picture of the original b&w photo (25% of original size):
http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/7549/rmjalizeecoloredhq098orig4hl.th.jpg (http://img231.imageshack.us/my.php?image=rmjalizeecoloredhq098orig4hl.jpg)

How do you like it? Any complains?

Pretty nice! Congrats.

Suggestions:
1. Her hair is way to reddish/bright.
2. Her lips are too vivid :).

That's about all.

Oh wow, I have missed that thread totally! Thanks for the link.

I got the same photoshooting session on the process which Mot has done there. :) Oh well... It won't hurt anyone to finish them. :)

^Wow RMJ, that's well good !

Her hair seems to have a purple tint to the colour of it, but other than that it looks so, so cool !

You've done a great job... but James is right, the hair color is too light. Keep on working with them 8)

Yup, the haird color isn't what she normally wears... But I kinda like the reddish tone. Pretty good looking. :)

Could try something darker with next ones, tho.

One thing I noticed right off the bat was her teeth.. they are discolored.

But after comparing the two photos, you made a big mistake.

Her arm on the left is not colored pink but rather the pillow behind her is.

makes her look deformed. If the hair, teeth, and this descrepency was corrected... I think it would be a classy job.

Yeah, I think they are still too bluish. I checked her teeth color from several photos and used it, but somehow they still come too bluish. Maybe it's some other filter that changed it. Need to look into it.

Woah, you are absolutely right! I wonder at what point I did that mistake. Must have be mistake in my masks. Her arm's and pillow's color is really swapped.

Ok, I fixed the photo. Also did some color changes (like the hairs).

edit:
Gah.. Fixed it again. The teeth were way off, kinda greenish...

Yeah I like it a lot. Very vivid black hair but awesome quality. I like to see these things. It's like seeing a book you read as a movie because it's always fun to see someone's interpretation of something you've imagined.

Hah, I was just saying that because of how impressive it is that you got her fingers colored right between her hairs. I dunno how you do that because I would figure this is done by selecting an area and then coloring it according to the black and white contrast. It must have been very hard to match the color with the rest of her.

RMJ, That's just great.... how in the world could you do that!?

Third photo from that photoshoot:
http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/8057/rmjalizeecoloredhq104rh9.th.jpg (http://img87.imageshack.us/my.php?image=rmjalizeecoloredhq104rh9.jpg)

And the original for the reference:

This was quite fast to do as it has fewer details (especially when comparing to the second photo).

Good stuff, RMJ. I think if you want another challenge, you could try coloring her hair, because it isn't exactly black. It's more of a dark brown. And like all natural hair, it's not the same shade in all places. Would be cool to see you try that.

Yup, most of the time it isn't as dark as in my pics. But I kinda like it. I also liked the reddish color I had in first version. :)

The color in my pics isn't actually excatly black. It's just very, very dark brown (in shadows it becomes pretty much pure black. Especially in the contrast enchanced versions I posted here). Kinda like in photo in your avatar. She had very dark hairs in that photshoot. :)

I could use slightly lighter color in next one. It wouldn't get so dark if I have to do contrast enchancement again. It's actually quite easy to change ones you get masks done. So, I can play with different colors to test them.

Coloring her hairs to be not so uniformaly colored is very tempting idea. But it's also somewhat more work. That's because the colors woudld have to follow the lines of her hairs. And tracking each of them is lots of work. :) It was already quite a job to et her fingers in the hairs to look as good as it looks now in the second photo. But well... I might give it a try, too. I ain't afraid of work. What ever makes her look good is ok to me. :)

There's actually one more problem with those hairs... Because she has dark hair in nature, the b&w photo becomes very dark in her hairs. The photo losts the fine details. So, if I go very light hair, I'd have to draw new details for her hair.

it is not that difficult to color the pic, when you have "RECOLORED".

RMJ

Unfortunately mathematical algorithms can't do well enough.

Even if you'd use program like that, you'd have to do lots of manual correcting for it to make it look even close to right.
