As some of you know already, i'm now in Paris staying at the residence of my esteemed colleague, Mark (BiB). Now Mark's already mentioned our trip to see the Tour de France final stage so this is basically "i'm here" and look at the banner we (Mark) made for the Jenifer concert tomorrow!

Cool banner! Though it's no match for that expensive, profesionally printed one that Ron had.
So you guys gonna wait in line all day? Though I guess that depends if it's assigned seating or not.
Ron, what happened with the banner? You still have it? Weren't we supposed to do something with it?

I think we were gonna try to give it to her at some tv appearance after writing messages on it, but then we never really got the chance.

Nice work, guys. But maybe you could have put it up against a background that doesn't hide everything that may give an idea of the size of this poster. Anyway, have fun!
Have a great time at the Jenifer concert! Can't wait to see more photos of your trip (assuming you take a camera :P)

Testing the limits of human endurance...
July 26, 12:30 a.m.: sleep
5:00 a.m.: wake up (no breakfast)
6:30 a.m.: show up at the Olympia (first in line); watched the crew put up Jenifer's name in lights
8:00 a.m.: lost a lot of space in line (barriers not put up yet; didn't know where to stand)
2:30 p.m.: orderly line forms ("That's retarded"); hours pass quickly
3:30 p.m.: body starting to no longer function; hours pass slowly
4:00--6:00 p.m.: loud annoying French girls right next to us
6:30 p.m.: intense body crush; suffocation imminent (no food yet)
7:00 p.m.: Pandemonium as we enter the Olympia
7:05 p.m.: Find our seats, sitting next to "Machine" (guy who stood in line for most of the time near us, sporting cammo trousers and military-like patience)
8:00 p.m.: Magloire, sitting in the upper terrace, gets noticed by the crowd
8:30 p.m.: opening act (Francis Maggiulli)
9:30 p.m.: Jenifer appears onstage
9:30--11:30 p.m.: Jenifer wows the crowd
July 27th, 12:00 a.m.: meet up with other fans for a drink at the Café Olympia
12:30 a.m.: walk back to metro; last to leave Olympia (still no food)
1:00 a.m.: home
In short, Jenifer was great; the Olympia, on the other hand, left a lot to be desired.
A few pictures:

It was just you and Sean right? So one of you could've gotten food while the other stayed in line.
After about 10:30, the line forming around us was too crowded for anyone to leave, without giving up one's spot (unlike the Zenith). I had brought some food in my backpack but Sean and I wanted to hold out as long as we could. But after awhile, food didn't really seem like a priority. For the last 3 or so hours in line, we were packed in like sardines, partly because the people in front pushed the barriers ahead, causing everyone else in line to push forward. One girl next to us started having trouble breathing and was crying. Other people not standing in line had to go get some water for her, as there were no security guards watching over the crowd. Just one of many examples of the shoddy Olympia security crew.

Wow....
Nice pictures...i can see you were something around 2nd or 3th line from Jenifer
or you could never make such beautyfull pictures.
Were the places taking before?Or did you had the chance to just stand anywhere, like it doesn't matter?
Jaycubed
27th July 2005, 21:56
We just had to get our tickets seen and then run as fast as we could to the seats, first come, first served basically. In retrospect it kinda sucked that we were the first there, about 40 mins before anyone else arrived at all, and we didn't get in the front row cos of the disorganised queue outside. Jenifer touched the hands of all in the front row, that should have been us!
Saying that though, the excruciating back and feet pain that me and Mark endured was easily more than offset by Jenifer. She was awesome. Powerful, beautiful and so full of energy, she somehow managed to make us feel not tired and not sick throughout. And those little seconds when you're sure she's looking straight into your eyes...wow.
As i post this, since mark's post i've had one mousse and 4 boiled sweets, that's all my food intake for two days now, i think i'm superhuman, food is only a luxury now.
But the waiting, only hazy memories now, but it sucked way too much for words, we couldn't have stood it alone, but at least the conversation we could strike up helped the situation.
But saying that, i'm pretty sure i'll only ever go through something like that again for Alizée

27th July 2005, 22:06
Believe me, when you've been standing contiunously in the same place for nearly 13 hours, in the same place, with no food, lots of pain and not even breathing seemingly, a lot becomes hazy.
Only do it if the reason for it is ultra worthwhile, considering it was Jenifer...it definitely was
and also, Francis Maggiulli was really good, i'll be looking up some of his stuff in the near future, he'd do well in england actually

btw did you took photo's with a normal,or a digital?
I should use normal,so i can touch them
Moco
28th July 2005, 00:43
That sucks about not getting front row. I know the exactly how you feel... But it does sound like you had a great time, which is the important thing. So did they let people stand up this time, or did everyone have to sit down?
Backinblack
28th July 2005, 00:55
Yeah people were standing up on their chairs, and some people with good balance were standing on the armrests which gave them a few more inches on top of that. ("Machine," weighing in at at least 230 lbs, was standing on the armrests--scary... :D )
Before the start of the concert, a few members of the jjteam (from justjenifer.com) told everyone to duck down and hide under their seats in order to play a joke on Jenifer when she came onstage. We thought it was a little strange, but we played along as well (and we found out that the floor was actually quite comfortable, after what we had been through :D ). Unfortunately for them, not everyone wanted to play along, and when Jenifer came onstage, people started getting up and on top of their chairs anyway.

wow you really are an innocent thing aren't ya? :P
i dunno how else to describe one really, but they aren't very filling that's for sure
But yeah i'm glad it was better too after all the stuff we went through waiting, but yeah i'm still completely wowing over it right now, it's like as it goes on i become more nostalgic about it, even in the space of the day

28th July 2005, 14:14
Standing and waiting for 13 hours is nothing to see Jenifer, I had a 30km full battle gear march that day. You lucky guys. :P
Why didn't you grab something to eat on your way to Olympia?
Backinblack
28th July 2005, 14:36
I know, Petteri, I have an old camera. :P As for food, at 6:30 a.m., nothing is open yet in Paris.
Just a couple other things concerning the concert. The only other French concerts I had been to before this one were Alizée's, so I couldn't help but compare it to them. In this concert, Jenifer was by comparison much more playful with the crowd, feeding off them and joking around a bit. Part of this is due to the fact that in general Jenifer seems more outgoing than Alizée, and she also has two huge concert tours under her belt compared to Alizée's one. Probably the cutest moment was when she introduced her song C'est de l'or, saying that it was dedicated to her son, and she jokingly told the crowd to be quiet because he was already asleep for the night. :=D:
Even though we met some nice people that day, I'd have to say I much prefer Alizée's fans--they seem much more courteous and respectful (I guess that's also because on the whole they're older than the average age of Jenifer's fans). Standing in line, it brought back visions of teaching high school kids in Orléans who had no respect for, well, just about anyone. Then there were a few creepy guys, those who tend to show up at concerts of young female singers, who just stand in the crowd with a blank expression on their faces, staring at her the whole time, without singing along or even moving at all.
On a final, more superficial note, while Jenifer looked amazing onstage, she wasn't in the same league as Alizée. But you guys already knew that. :P
Oh yeah, Ron, Sean's "boiled sweets" are none other than Werther's Originals. I'm sure you've had them before.

I guess that's the thing about live concerts, is that you never know what you're going to get. Maybe she was tired or sick that day. Who knows?
Hey Mark or Sean, do you recall the playlist of the concert?
Ron V.
29th July 2005, 01:05
I'm curious as to if you guys got her rendition of Tom's Diner like we did at the one in Amiens. Had that song stuck in my head for ages afterwards, she did a great job with it.
Jaycubed
29th July 2005, 02:32
Yep we had Tom's Diner Ron, and it was awesome, the way she slid into some words in that was just, oh my don't get me thinking of that.
and also, thanks for refreshing my mind on what the actual name of that song is, i'd been trying to think of it since she stunned me with it.
And well Moco, it's best to ask Mark about the song order, i was like all dreamy all the way through, i can only remember being constantly wowed, though...the list may be on the programme we bought, either way, we'll get it to ya.

Hey Mark or Sean, do you recall the playlist of the concert?
Saw this on multifans... looks like a bootleg (though dunno why they bothered with the OpenDisc logo then), but maybe it gives an idea of the setlist for Jeni's tour if it's consistent from show to show?

Oh man, something so strange came over me when she sang "you're a dirty, dirty man" :P
I really didn't know whether to deny it or admit it! :D
but well just on a random glance, that track list seems close to right, i mean it's seriously a jumble for me, but the last three songs are right, i remember Au Soleil being bang in the middle, like on that list, but i dunno if Tom's diner was after or before, Mark will probably shed much more light on it than i do
I'm still in a whirl.
Moco
29th July 2005, 03:10
So few songs from her first album, though I guess that's to be expected. "Dirty man"? Never heard of that, but it definitely sounds... interesting.
While we're on the subject of CD covers, here's the official CD cover for her live album, due for release this October:
