allright, i was listening to both versions of J'en ai marre enlish and french,
and i noticed that in the english version theres added moaning sounds about half way through the song at about 2:18 after the words "POOR ME!!!" to 2:34. Through this you'll hear 2 hums in the backround, and then a Moaning sound.

Does anyone know why this was added to the english version, and not the french, and did she really have to make those noices herself. i think that would be awkward for anyone if they had to put that in their music.lol

Please double check this for me, im sure im not just hearing things i want to hear, but i know alot of you probably have her music at the push of a button so yeah, check it out.

Ultimately, the editing of the song is up to the studio to decide. She comes in and provides the raw vocal material, and then they use it in the mixing of the song. Did she make those sounds? I'd guess all the vocals in that song are hers both English and French. I'm speculating, but I wouldn't expect them to force her to do something she didn't want to do.

For final questions, everybody would have to look at the business contract to see who would decide what.

Those sounds you are hearing, were probably inserted to mask some residual artifacts from the dubbing.. and in the video you can see her make those sounds if you watch her lips.

From my understanding, that sound was to try to keep more of the original meaning of the french version. Where Mylène wrote her double meanings in this song, it sounds like it could be talking about lazing around and relaxing, but it also obviously has innuendos (specifically masturbation).

J'en ai marre is the most ambigious song Mylène ever wrote for Alizée. There is simply so many things in it. The references that Alizée is a goldfish locked inside a tank (in the video she is a little red goldfish in a glass tank), where in some interviews, she says she enjoys the isolation. Some try to break that isolation (paparazzi, photographers, she throws the camera and tears the film out)

--Another thing that I find as a possible reference, yet I hear no one mention, is the goldfish near the beginning of the movie Amelie. It was fed up with life, leaped out of it's tank, and tried to commit suicide. Amelie and her parents saved it, and let it go "free" into the water. Later in the album there is an Amélie-inspired song (Amelie M'a Dit), which is why I think the reference might be there.

She talks about relaxing, being alone (downtime being very important to a stressful life), and of a certain "sport" she sometimes did to pass the time...

Anyway, yes those terms can be interpreted they way you interpreted them. Those are the interpretations that are not under scrutiny in this thread, but it shows a good example. That is why the the terms are double, triple, quadruple-who-knows, meanings. Because of this, they can be interpreted sexually too, as a good amount of Alizée's songs are. It was meant to be written that way, the word play was in there, it was Mylènes style. If you look at the lyrics Mylène wrote for yourself, you'll see that the ones she wrote for Alizée often calm in comparision, as Mylènes lyrics get obviously graphic, even when it comes to violence.

Just to understand though, i'm just holding a conversation, because it reveals more about the thread, and I don't mean to irritate you with my thoughts. I'm sorry if I came off badly, I meant well.

On that last bit, in my mind, her private life should be as private as she wants it to be, I agree. But this is not really about her private life, it's about her song, and her songs usually have something to do with her, but they are not exclusively all about here, there are other themes, ideas, and even stories written into her songs (an example would be the girl sitting at the edge of the Nile, or the Hooker in Barcelona in Hey Amigo. It's hard to tell why they were written sometimes, i suppose Alizée doesn't have to relate to these extra characters in some way or another, but perhaps she does...?).

The only song for sure that Alizée doesn't relate to, is Moi...Lolita, which is another story, with another character who isn't Alizée. Instead of the other two songs, she's not talking about the character in 3rd person, she's playing the character, but we still know Moi...Lolita has no Alizée influences in it.

Wether or not the masturbation references are talking about Alizée, or just something Mylène really wanted to do, who knows, but they are there.

Also, I suspect, as a few others have, that her talk of being allergic to zuccinis was reallly just a fast way to avoid the answer to that unexpected question, since it's a bad idea to come right out and say what some of that means on a show children watch. As Alizée said herself, of the double meanings, in one of the interviews, the songs have something for kids and something for adults too. You can think of some of the things in her songs as being about that sort of theme in general, not about her private life. Just basic talk of masturbation or whatnot doesn't have much to do with her private life. It's more just about these concepts in general.

If she thought things in her songs tread too much into her private life, she wouldn't sing them. But, she happily sings J'en ai Marre in front of huge crowds, and just like Moi...Lolita, it's sung in a very teasing, sensual way, clearly hinting at all the playful and naughty factors. So while while Alizée might not have direct influence on all the lyrics, some of them are general enough in common sense. This is the same for pretty much any song except Moi...Lolita, because I don't of course I don't think Alizée is familiar with being a 12 year old prostitue.

As for the 'Melons' and water, I think it probably translates more correctly into bubbles and water, as with the official translation. I think it's important to say in english "bubbles and water" to give the unmistakable thought of a bathtub as a setting.

As for Mylène and Alizée trying to hint that we are the only ones thinking the dirty thoughts, that the fantasy is all us and not in the song, that is exactly what teasing is. To make an audience think they are over-interpreting the song. In reality, the teasing is on purpose, the innuendos are so unmistakeable, any French adult paying attention would notice.

I don't know French, so I can't notice it. I know english very well, and so I notice the innuendos in that easily, but there is said to be a lot less innuendo, or word play--and meaning in these so called "watered down" english versions. It's said that Alizée's management figured Britain would care more about Alizée's voice and image more than the actual lyrics. This is probably why they only translated 4 songs and not the whole album.

The french understood the innuendos, because some of the parents didn't like her image, and some of the general public had nasty things to say of her, like that she is a "slut" or whatnot. These were not all a result of her stage dress, they were also referring to her lyrics in some cases. Pop stars in pretty much any country get this kind of backlash from time to time, i'd say, well I like it (the music). If they don't like it, fine.
