Coeur deja pris - the blend of the various eletric piano tunes coupled with the winds... really puts me in a surreal state of mind.

a ballad is a a strong sing -a- long song. like when everyone knows the message of the song and brings it to the next level. sort of song when like people put up lighters in the air and wave them around. kinda like "Higher" by Creed.

Coeur deja pris
Same here. That's one of the few songs that I've gotten really emotional about. I remember listening to it in the car one time and I was almost in tears (almost, I've never actually cried during a song :P). My French listening skills were just good enough to understand what the lyrics meant. That, coupled with Alizée's gorgeous performance, I could feel the pain, despair, etc.. that makes it a really touching ballad.

hmm yea sort of. although ballads are most of the time rock songs. or at least have a good beat to it. Moi Lolita for example, is a good ballad by Alizee cause everyone knows that one and they can sing along to it easily

Lets change the thread title to: Debate, which Alizée songs are ballads and which are not.
In my mind, Parler Tout Bas and Tempête were the true Ballads, but there are so many ways to think of a Ballad, and I was thinking oddly. Thinking about it another way, almost All of Alizée's songs can be considered a Ballad, most of them are real heavy on the lyrics and have very little instrumental. I wouldn't consider Mon Maquis a ballad, but everything else...?

Broken Wings, I think you have the wrong definition of a ballad. Here's the definition I get from dictionary.com:
"A popular song especially of a romantic or sentimental nature."
It's not necessarily a song that everyone can sing along to. They're usually slower songs that don't really emphasize the beat, but the beauty of the melody and the singer's voice. Moi... Lolita is most definitely NOT a ballad. Here's what I consider to be Alizée's ballad songs:
Lui ou toi
Parler tout bas
A quoi rêve une jeune fille
Amélie m'a dit
Tempête
Coeur déjà pris

what about L'e-mail a des ailes?
Moco
22nd July 2005, 22:52
Yeah I guess that could be one too. Although it does meet the basic definition of a ballad, I think its tempo may be a little too fast. Even though I disagreed with some of Broken Wing's definitions of a ballad, I liked how he said it was a song you could wave your arms slowly back and forth in a crowd, maybe with a lighter in hand. I can't imagine doing that during L'e-mail a des ailes.

your arms get tired if you're waving so fast...you'll need a good lighter if you don't want it to go off!

Parler tout bas was my first... then coeur deja pris grew on me... the only reason why I chose pris over bas, is because pris has that amazing, (I want to say) recorder. (<-- type of wind intrument in america)

In that case it might have not only something to do with the tempo, but with the subject matter too. I'd think of most of them as being a bit more downbeat, but it's confusing, Alizée's songs are typically downbeat, even the fast ones (Even L'Alizé has many downbeats!). It's funny, because referring to this website:
http://www.di.fm/edmguide/edmguide.html
French Pop is found in the "Downtempo" Tab at the bottom. Although, this has a bit more to do with the Electro music than the die hard pop.

Amélie M'a Dit

I have exactly same opinion as you have in this discussion.
Hmm... well Parler Tout Bas is good one too i think, but Amélie M'a dit is best of Alizées Ballads.

Tempête is my favorite, I don't really know why.
Coeur Deja Pris follows that up for the meaning and emotion behind it. PTB just doesn't carry the same level of emotion in my eyes.
PTB and Amélie M'a Dit tie it up for 3rd. That said, they're all amazing songs; her ballads are some of her best work IMO.

La Isla Bonita-esque "Hey Amigo" is a great touching tune that always makes me want to slow dance. Ballads are very Mylene style, which has never been bad.
thats part of a review on amazon.com on the cd. check out the rest on that other "review" topic. but Hey Amigo is a great ballad. I kind of picture listinin to that on a tropical island

CDP is the only song that has made me shed a tear, sad I know...silly really but hey... :?
PTB is just simply beautiful...video is a bit odd though. :P
