Let's break it down (newbies join in!). Of all Alizee's songs, Moi... Lolita was the only massively succesful single that stood out & broke language barriers. Some of her singles did fairly well but still pales in comparison to the success of Moi... Lolita. In your own experience, what was it that made this song so captivating? Was it the packaging & marketing, the video, the Lolita vibe, Alizee, or the song itself? What is it really that made this song so well received?

For me,because she wanted to get known over whole Europe and it was a nice summer song.Who else can't resist her smile, and everything that's good about her.

For me it was as clear as a cloudles morning.I liked the song, because of her singing beautyfull french.

It was her first song,so she wanted to let herself known in other countries. It could be that she saw the sell-list per country, and decided to quit in that country, where she didn't sold so much

Well, every star has his/her peak, Alizée is in the same position. If she will bring more wonderfull stuff to us, we will see in the future. For me, 'Moi... Lolita' was a very beautiful, sweet, seducing song sang by a teenager, and she really captured me entirely. Like you said, she had, and still has that Lolita vibe. Very enchanting!

All of those things, along with the fact that it has the most well written and complex lyrics of all her songs in my opinion.

^ About its lyrics, I'm surprised even some of the french find it nonsensical.

If you want a good read about how well written they are, check out The_Honorable's excellent translation and interpreteation here (his first several posts):

Let's face it, Alizee is amazingly beautiful and sexy. SEX SELLS everything from records to clothing, food, you name it and almost all advertising has some sort of sexual reference.

That being said, of course the lolita 1/2 innocent 1/2 sexual vibe drives most men crazy for lots of reasons that I won't go into because we probably all know them.

Then of course, the song is well written both musically and lyrically so it has many hooks to toss out at you and pull you into Alizee. Her youth, beauty, smile, and on and on and on.

The other songs that followed although they too have many sexual references, are more mature and some of the "newness" of your first exposure to Alizee is worn off by then. However, I never heard of her until I saw the "La Isla Bonita" video (which I really wish she'd put on a record). It was after that, I discovered the rest of her and I now play her CD in my truck every day as I drive to work. I've not once grown tired of it.

Actually, it's some strange "best of" that is sold on ebay. It says it's from Mtv europe but I think it is a bootleg. It was the easiest one to get here in America. I have the Tai version of Gourmandises and I love that one too. I still have to pick up MEC but I just ordered the DVD and I also have the fan DVD I downloaded and burned....

It's all great!

I don't know, maybe it has an extra song or maybe not, it DOES have the lyrics all translated in to English on the cover notes but the translations are pretty rough. At least it gives you something to go by for that.

I'm also wondering if her MCE did well in Japan or other asian countries. Seems like ML was the only one with massive appeal. It might've something to do with the newness like somebody mentioned.

As you can see here (http://www.alizee-fanpage.com/page.php?language=en&content=charts) JEAM did very well in Japan. They mentioned in the video of the making of Elise commercial that the Japanese have always found the French women very sexy. That and a great song made her popular, for at least that song. Dunno if JPVA or ACC was even released over there, though.

Are you talking about "singles" being released or the albums? I know the albums are available in a Japanese version, but I don't know if they released the singles there. There is a website where you can order copies of the Japanese CD's and they are expensive. Supposedly, they are much better quality than other countries CD's and sound tons better but I sort of doubt it.

wtf, why didnt they make an english version. goddamnit.......

To tell you the truth, i didnt even hear this song before i listened to jen ai marre and im not twenty, it was kinda dissapointing.
i dont like it as mutch as those other two songs, but if you listen to it enough, it will get stuck in your head.........and the only way to get it out is an old indian ritual dance where you hop backwards on one foot singing the lyrics backwards. 8) does that look like a face that would lie. look at that poker face.

 Perhaps that is why Alizee (well... her music at least) is such guilty pleasure among many of us.
