One thing i noticed about Jenifer, she always has a smile on her face. As does Alizée...

The bottom right pic, she looks alot like Alizée.. if you imagine her with not as much hair.

Mostly just a bad setup, very little planning, restrictive (and baffling) crowd rules (nobody was allowed to stand!). They didn't really do anything engaging, and Jenifer rarely even did so much as stand up. She sounded pretty cool though.

I heard Ange talking about that concert; I didn't know you were there too. Hopefully they realized their mistake; it was a bad idea, considering her fanbase.

Jenifer is 22, about 2 years older than Alizée. I think another thing about her that people appreciate is that she hasn't disassociated herself from the Star Ac label, as other artists have done. Also, she came from a rather humble background, leaving home for Paris at a young age and living frugally for awhile on her own before making it big.

It's true that Jenifer isn't always as photogenic as Alizée.

Jenifer was born in Nice but lived in Corsica for awhile; it was in Corsica when she got her start singing in bars/cafés/restaurants.

Corsican is in fact a living (although endangered) language. Many schools in Corsica require students to take Corsican classes and some schools are bilingual Corsican/French instruction. It is very similar to Italian, but it has been influenced by French more recently. The French government has never officially recognized the existence of the language, which is why it has been marginalized and often classified as an Italian dialect.
To my knowledge, neither Alizée nor Jenifer have ever mentioned being able to speak Corsican, although living on the island they must have had some exposure to it.

See BIB's post: it's an entirely different language, closer to Italian than to French. Just one point to add to what Mark said: I recall seeing an interview somewhere where Alizée mentions that she only knows a few Corsu words and cannot really speak the language (the same goes for Jenifer, I bet).

On the bottom right pic, I don't think it's so much that she looks entirely like Alizée, I think it's more that her facial expression looks like an Alizée expression. Though she does resemble her a bit in her pigment and hair colors, eyebrows and eye color... she's probably of similar descent.

I've never understood the comparison between Alizée and Jenifer in regards to them looking the same. Other than the dark hair and the dark eyes, I just don't see it. They have very different facial structures, different eyes, different noses, etc... Maybe it's because I'm familiar with both their faces, but even when I first saw pictures of Jenifer, it never crossed my mind that she resembled Alizée in any way.

So I finally heard her english version of Des Mots Qui Resonnent, and man, it really sounds pretty weird. It actually comes off quite a bit more awkward than Lili's english versions. Not so much for weird phrases like Lili's, but her voice sounds really weird in english, and the flow of the song just seems to be stinted.

Yeah her accent is really noticeable in that song, more so than Alizée's English songs, it seems. Did Jenifer sing any songs in English during the concert you went to? At the Olympia she sang two songs in English, and even though she nailed the lyrics, she sang, well, like a French person would sing in English.

Have you been able to take a look back at your career?

I wasn't expecting it to be so huge. I wasn't expecting so many people to still be there. Because I was given so much media coverage for a long time, there was a certain increase in sales compared to the first album. I'd like to be recognized for my music. It's not that I want to get rid of the Star Academy label because I assume fully everything I did; if I had to do it over, I'd do it again tomorrow, seeing where it brought me and the people that I've been able to meet. Now I have an objective idea of everything that happens to me, 100 percent. On one hand I'd rather not have it; I'd rather shut my eyes to certain things and blow off steam to people in my entourage. There are very few people in my entourage; there's my manager Frank, a few people from my record label, whom I can trust, because we talk a lot, because if they feel like saying crap to me, they can, and I can do likewise. So we try to advance an objective view on everything that happens. I'm very reasonable; I have my feet firmly planted on the ground and I'd like to keep it that way. Right now things are going well; we'll see how things turn out, but I just live from day to day in the artistic world. I'm savoring everything that happens.

90 concert dates, that's a lot! You're finally going to be able to breathe soon...

That's true, I'm going return to a "normal life" as it were, even though I've been able to balance things during the tour, I was able to--the tour was very well structured; I wasn't gone very long from home--only one or two nights a week, not very long. I was able to fulfill my role as a mother this year, fortunately, because otherwise I wouldn't have been able to handle it without my little one, my little guy; I need him around all the time, just like other stars need their own families. So we're going to be together again; we're going to have the family together again, as well as other people and friends. We're going to do completely normal things again, and then we'll see; I'm thinking strongly about my third album, because we had a lot of ideas during the tour. We wanted to create things even though we were onstage every night. We wanted to do other things lots of times because we were singing the same songs every night. We wanted to create new things, so we're going to meet up again and get some concrete ideas. I'm going to take my time in any case.


I was lucky to perform at the Olympia on several occasions. Every time, it's powerful. Now we're in the dressing room, we just did the "balancing"--that is, the rehearsals, and now what time is it, 6:00? And the pressure is building, because you want to do well on this mythical stage. Even though you're a little displaced onstage, you can still feel the waves and the atmosphere that you can't find anywhere else. So I'm really lucky to be here, but I'm really nervous too.

Do you have time to go see other artists in concert?

This year I saw Alizée, which was really cool, I saw Calo[gero], which was also really cool. But I don't often go--I don't go to enough concerts. I'm maybe a little too much of a stay-at-home kind of person, or someone who gets into too much of a routine, in my little bubble with my friends, going to my favorite little pub... So I took the initiative this year to go see other artists more in concert. I haven't really been to a lot of concerts in my life, I haven't really gone out much. I was born in Nice, I've always lived in Nice, so I often went to the Cannes Film Festival and the surrounding festivals in the Alpes-Maritimes region. But the Olympia, for me, before, it was that I didn't have the money, now it's that I don't have the time, so now I need to find the time.

Do you feel the difference between a little arena and a big arena?

There is a difference. There's a lot of excitement when you go onstage, no matter where it is, whether it's a small arena or a big arena. The same butterflies are still there. But I prefer...it's a lot more intense in a theater or in a small arena, because you can see the people, and there's a much more intense exchange between the public, because you can see people well from where you're at. It's more intimate, which I like. It carries me, to have people smiling at me, encouraging me, even just watching me...

You're right, I did forget that. For those who don't know, "What If" is a cover of a song of the same name by a Swedish singer named Lisa Miskovsky. For Jenifer's first album, new lyrics were written in French to make "Entre humains". Here's Jenifer's version of "What If" (found only on the Le souvenir de ce jour single) and Lisa's original version.
