View Full Version : Has anyone ever translated all of her songs into English?

Since I was trapped by "La Isla Bonita" my endless search for Alizee brought me to this fan page which I really enjoy. I've already purchased a compilation CD of her music off of ebay and another is on the way. Funny how I just discovered her several weeks ago. I've also downloaded all of the videos and Robin Sparks fan DVD off of the internet. I've been listening to her CD in my truck for days now and I really like it. I love the English songs and French songs alike but I don't understand a word she's saying for the most part.

I was wondering if anyone had ever translated her songs into English here? I ordered some Tiwaneese version of Gourmandies which is supposed to have the English notes included so I'll see how that goes.

All the best to everyone here.

Or do you mean translated and sung then in English?

WOW! Thanks Tim. That is a great link. I was looking for almost exactly what was done there. I know that a litteral translation into English and sung to the same music would be next to impossible and make little sense if any. So this is more of an adjusted translation to make it more understandable. Thanks very much.

I hope so, I've lost two cans of chili this week alone! Hey, maybe I've found a new diet? Fall in love with Alizee and lose weight at the same time! Now there's a whole new benefit to this Angel!

I'd recommend sticking to cold or room-temp food for a bit. It may be safer and more cost-effective :).

Hey Le Bear did you see this?

And did anyone compared "our" translations with "theirs" ? I just checked for "Moi...Lolita" and I have to say it is a bit different-the meaning is the same, but words are different.

Please take a look Backinblack and tell us what do you think. Finally you are the only one around here who is competent to discuss about it.

Alizée made me so crazy last time.I thought my family was here so i placed 3 Pizza's in the oven. The one at the bottom burned,so i could get it off the plate. The second one was good and the 3 one was still ice.

I had to eat them...

I posted the current Gourmandises lyrics that appear on our site based on the English lyrics that are in the Taiwanese CD booklet. They tend to be more literal word for word translations compared to what you see on MFI. But MFI tends to get the imagery and meanings more correct, especially if you read their footnotes. Same goes for the MCE lyrics, though I didn't type those up. It helps to read both to get the fullest understanding, though neither is more "correct."

I don't get her passion with wolves ... I think I see in each translation at least once "wolf". >_> I'm gonna change my nick to Wolfie <_< lol

Heh well it's a favorite thing with Mylène (Giorgino, the movie she did with Laurent Boutonnat, is all about wolves), and it's also a fairly common French metaphor for sex and loss of virginity... and it's relation to violence. It's been said that almost every word Mylène writes is about sex, death, and/or religion. ;)

Bondius
27th June 2005, 13:34
Hmm ... Bondius ... or the pure meaning of sex ... ow screw it, call me Wolf now! lol

Backinblack

Mylène also had a brother named Jean-Loup. If I remember correctly, he was killed in a car accident in the mid 90s.

I really appreciate this link, I think my favorite song now is Mon Maquis. Now that I have a general idea of the lyrics, the song is so erie in a way but it just pulls you in. I love the way it's spoken and not really sung, it's cool

if you want.... but you have to love your child because of the fact that
it's your child and not because it's named after an Angel

I wait and see what the destiny brings to me....
...when i have anyday a child, then i can choose the name, not today

So does the DVD for the concert have a good rendition of Mon Maquis then? I don't have it yet but I really want to buy it. The only draw back is that I think I'll only be able to watch it on my computer and not my American DVD player......

What does she wear and how does she do the song live? Is it cool?

On a side note. Is it just me or do the words "Autour du globe c'est
L'égérie" change to ".... c'est sexy lingerie" in the end of the JBG track. I always though she was singing the latter in the first place. But after looking up the lyrics ,and realizing the refrain usually is a loop instead of all being unique, I forgot about it.

But listening to the album with headphone lately I couldn't notice the word "globe" in the end which makes the lyrics at least sound like the second approach.

Or... of course... I need to get my ears checked.

Thanks everyone for the information. I will go ahead and order the DVD now. That song is just so cool, sort of mysterious and sexy, yet the lyrics (once translated) aren't about sexy things at all (which is unusual for Alizee given all the hidden and obvious things in the songs, and Yes, I know she didn't write them).

Thanks again!

The most of translates, especially to english, are inexact.
Because lots of word-meanigs doesn't exist in english or other languages.

The thing about the translations on MFI are that the authors often take a lot of liberties in putting more emphasis on the interpretation rather than the literal translation. But like Snatcher said before, it's best to read both to get a fuller understanding of the songs. Even if you disagree with those interpretations, it's a good way of realizing the depth of these lyrics.
