upper class backround. Alizée hails from Ajaccio, Corsica--a French territory in the Mediterranean sea. It's an upper class island in general. She went to a pretty high class Performing Arts school of sorts as well.
Also, the other prominent figure from Ajaccio (a port town on the west coast), was Napolean. :D Napolean is the subject of the song Tempête from Mes Courants Électriques.

Favourite meal Asian kitchen <-- I like it ;) :P :boff:
Thanks for the info Jango.
why you're asking ?
I thought it might help me understand her better. But then again I only really understand the English class system and I'm guessing ours is very different from the French.

It will because different class's behave different and follow different trends. My teacher who is working class was telling me how he stood out like a sore thumb in university, because he was working class and the rest of the students where upper-middle.
I thought Alizee would have been working class or lower-middle not upper class :?
I don't know how you guys figure She is from upper class?
As far as I know Her dad is some computer-guy and mom is a shopkeeper. I'd say She comes from middle class.

I would have said middle-class also.

Defenitely middle class. Myabe now that she's richer, it's an upgrade to social status.

I'm sorry to disapoint you or break any Corsican dream, but income wise Corsica is the poorest region of France (expecting oversea territories)?
It's GDP per capita is about 10.260 $ a year (not a simple figure to find) it's lower than Poland (12,000 $) and mainland France is much closer of the 30.000 $ a year (hard to find a figure for mainland France only, all stats include Corsica and the oversea territories). It's economic growth is following the same rythm than the rest of France (which isn't a good thing).
There is indeed a rich class in Corsica, but it's really far to be representative of the reality. Corsica isn't a third world country, but what do you want me to say? It's clearly not a rich region in France, the powerfull area are Ile de France and Alsace. Southern France is also experiencing strong devellopments (but not Corsica).

Corsica also receives more subsidies than any other region of France. It experiences "brain drain" and the majority of income from the island is generated during tourist season.
Alizée has said that she had a happy childhood; I would imagine that her parents made enough to provide comfortably for the family, but nothing outlandish.

Yeah, though also it seems her family had a sail boat, swimming pool, etc. before she became famous. And of course the private dance school. Not celebrity rich, obviously, but I'd call this comfortably upper middle-class.

heh, i bet everyone has a sailboat in Corsica. When i was a child, i got whatever i wanted. ( not in a spoilt way ) but i wasnt deprived of anything. My mum n dad were not rich but worked damn hard to get the things we wanted.
I would say Alizée's family was middle class like almost everyone else on that Island. When Britney Spears first started off, her mum n dad were poor. But, they scrapped every $ togeather to pay for her lessons and even got donations from local town people to send her away to NewYork for private dance lessons. Its all about hard work, people that are middle class can still afford some pretty amazing things due to hard work and dedication.
If she was upper class, i am sure she would have taken dance lessons somewhere else, like high performing arts or something.

Interesting discussion. I would have said upper middleclass too, but although you can determine these classes, I'm not sure that they mean a whole lot in France (although I don't know). There are many non European countries which have 'class' systems of sorts, but in Europe I thought England was the only true 'class driven' country. By that I mean that it is still of great importance and is recognised by those that live there. By contrast here in Australia, you can determine which class people would fit into, but it doesn't really have any other sort of bearing in society other than a predicitve value as to how comfortably those people would live.
Kinda a serious post for so early in the morning - just thinking outloud!

Yeah muppetyoda, though you could call what we're discussing here economic status I guess, as opposed to class.
Sail boats are pretty common in Corsica, yeah, but combined with a nice house and pool (as opposed to the many apartments you see in Ajaccio) and her dad working in the tech field when it was very profitable, I still say upper middle class. Again that's not insane rich or anything, but I know speaking from mid-range middle class, I couldn't afford those things... living in Ajaccio or otherwise.

Middle class, for when do you ever see upper class people have singing as a profession? People do get rich from singing, but I have not seen people who are rich in the first place sing as their job.

Many famous people get into the music industry because their parents already are, so yes. Kelly Osbourn for example.
I don't know, a swimming pool and a house like that is up there, and a sailboat costs even more than a house usually...
I'll say upper-middle class.

what about 'Upper Middle Working Class' 8)
I don't know,but it looks like upper-middle class to me. :P
As a matter of fact, they should be considered as a very rich family here,in Serbia. So I guess for the rest of the (normal) world it should be upper-middle class. There you go,I said it! 8)

famous model Laetitia Casta came from Ajaccio as well, being the capital of the island, it gets a fair amount of attention whenever someone mentions Corsica.

LoL, i'm going to have to plan a trip to Ajaccio, the women sound great.
So it's settled, Alizee is generally middle class. I don't know if that helps me much because class systems do change in different countries. But now I know what it was like for he growing up and what she might be like now.

Heh, sorry man. Just make the best of what you have. Alizée was and is doing just fine. Class is basically tied to economic status and as both parents were employed I'd have to agree with upper-middle.

I guess it all comes down to your current social class. When i look at Corsica, they way they live, the jobs they do and the money they earn, it ais a cheap, very cheap lifestyle compared to the UK. So, imo it is middle-class. I also think America ( most states ) are middle class, only comparing with England. If i sold my house, it would be worth Half a million in America. I am working class, but in America i could live like a King. I could sell my car over here, and buy 3 of the same kind in the states.

Yeah it's amazing how expensive Britain is, especially with housing. I'd guess that housing prices are about 2x for similar sizes and location to most places here in the states.

Dont know how u guys divide the social class, wot should it depends on?
My father is a motor engineer and my mother is a automobile seller, so which social class should I belong to? :?:
And myself, a chemical engineer. :cheesy:

I say:DO IT!!!! You'll be a knig, and you'll have 3 houses and 5 cars.Maybe I can borrow one house and a car in exchange for half of my mortal soul  ? (sorry, but you can't get the whole soul,RR already owns it,but I guess I can arrange a half of it for you... )
@ xuleicolin:
It depends on how much money (including bank account, not just cash :cheesy: ) and stuff (houses, vehiecles, land property...) do you have. From what you have written,I guess you are middle class. Then again,I don't know your account number....

//...when do you ever see upper class people have singing as a profession? People do get rich from singing, but I have not seen people who are rich in the first place sing as their job. From here on one could drift towards the thought of Alizée's daughter being also a singer in the future. The child's parents are musically gifted and fairly rich. (Especially Jérémy, as I heard), would it be too daring to assume that the child will be influenced more by the talent of her parents, rather than by the money they posess? I think I would enjoy the music of another Jacotey-Chatelain female singer.

You may be right Ayan, having too parents as singers does influence you a lot to be a singer. But as now the child has rich parents, Alizée and Jeremy can and may cultivate their child to be interested in something he/she likes, that may not be music.
