The news are very aweful concerning this tragedy that hit some countries. What d'you guys think of this current wrath of mother nature that claimed lots of lives? It's also pretty stormy here in South Cali.

It makes me think of Noah's Ark, the anger of God. How terrible!

It's really sad. And they have said that the tragedy could've been prevented: since the earthquake happened, and until the tsunami hit those countries, there were about 2 hours. Two hours! Enough time to evacuate the people in the coasts.

Few people had met this before and did't know the power of the nature.

What a bad way to end a waning year eh? I feel suspisciously that this has something to do with the signs of Nostradamus (or maybe not). Did you also hear about the train incident. Damn, the bodies were starting to stink, they say. To think that some of those folks just spent christmas a while ago.

Horrible and terrifying!!!!No words can be found to describe what happened!!I'm so sorry.Unfortunately, this is just one more proof that nature still can be incredibly dangerous, although we are trying to controll it.Now everyone can see that is not possible.

yeah, we can controll polluting the entiroment, but can not controll the earthquake and some other disasters, but I think if there was an alarm availible it won't causes so many death.

How terrible. At first they reported about 10'000 people's death. Now the number has increased 10x . And they still haven't contacted all regions which were hit by it. So can we conclude the number can increase itself multiple times more? Up to 1 million perhaps?

I don't really believe in god. One of the victims who lost 24 family members said he couldn't bring himself to pray anymore. I guess he's like me now. We must all come to realize that religion is just to give people faith and keep society in order. The movie "The Village" is a perfect parallel of what i'm trying to say.

However high the number of deaths are, they are not surprising to me, as that region has concentrations of people in one town for instance that exceed GREAT numbers.

Religion is mans effort to get to God. To be honest, its the biggest factor of all wars. I belive in God and Jesus Christ. I can understand that guy saying he can't bring himself round to pray anymore.. thats understandable. However, in time he will pray again.
I guess he knows his family is in heaven with God now, but is so dissapointed to lose them. In time, he will comw around, as the thought of his family alive in the afterlife in the kingdom of God, will all he will have left .

Such a rash quote you got there. Religion is what's left of "God" in these godless times. It doesn't impose what/not to believe. You still have a choice in the matter.

Ihaave a question...why do people say that people are in heaven when they die? I read thebible a few times, if i am understanding it correctly... you just don't exist till christ comes back to resurrect the souls.... then whats with the whole in heaven now thing? I am so confused... religion scares me.... its like... it was an object created on peoples fears to get the perfect man image people...
DavidAlizée
4th January 2005, 04:23
it just talks about heaven, is a place where you go when you die. The talk about Christ coming again, is true yes to save our souls and forgive us of our sins and to reward them who have been faithful to love God and faith in Jesus.. But, thats why Jesus died on the cross, to forgive us of our sins so we can go to heaven.
Hope this makes sense :P

Yeah
Also, the toll is so high because so many of these countries are never any higher than 30 feet above sea level, so there is no high ground to escape to.

jaxpot, the village is a movie thats trying to say that religon is a degree of control that keeps society in line, and that it is supposed to be a good thing. Overall, it is a pro bush and pro religon movie, with the view, don't give people knowledge, and the people will behaive themselves. So rather the opposite they are saying solitude, and simpler times are better for peoples morals, and that what bush wants from this country is the right thing.
My Film teacher brought this up because he was suprised to see a pro bush movie pop up that summer, with all the other anti bush movies dominating the box office at the same time (like "day after tomarrow" with it's blatant mockery of dick cheney and the whole bush administration") just about every move that came out then had some kind of undertone or hidden message politically, with 9/11 centering around that message completely to round it out.
The village had a rare viewpoint among movies and the industry. It also had an ending that people saw coming, even if they didn't read the book.
pro bush!
I...for the record, am not pro bush. Please don't turn this thread political, it does not need to be, I only stated the viewpoint of the movie. Back to Alizee.

Well, you know, tragedies can either bring out the best in people or the worst in people. It's a sad fact that there will always be those who would take advantage of other's misfortunes for their own personal greed. Even though the seller says the money will be donated to the victims, I seriously doubt it. I'm glad no one has actually bid on it.

Did you see the movie ?
It just tells that religion and society control everything and everybody, but it's not a good thing at all ! At the end they are asking them what to do : keep the peace and let the boy die, or tell the truth and save the boy. The director doesn't think letting a boy die to keep a false peace is the right choice, for example when the old are arguing and one is saying that the lie has been too far...
Really, I didn't understand it in that way, and I don't think your interpretation is right.
As for the tsunami... horrible, there's no words to express what I can feel about this tragedy. God's choice ? My dear, not... it's just nature.
