Two words: Allan Moore.
His run on Swamp Thing is soooo amazing, yet always overlooked... even with the (crappy looking) Constantine movie coming soon - a character originally created by Moore for Swamp Thing - it's still an obscure book. His run has been released in 5 or 6 TPBs, and they're totally worth picking up. My dream has always been to get the opportunity to do them justice as a film trilogy (the only way they would work: too long for one movie; too violent, dark, and disturbing for a TV miniseries). The idea would be to cover The Anatomy Lesson --> Demons Driven in the first film, Love and Death in the second, and American Gothic with the final confrontation between good and evil in the last (i.e. issues 20 through 50, or about 10 comics per film).
Watchmen is another Moore classic... but maybe a bit overrated (it's small fries compared to Swampy).
With recent comics, anything by JMS is good. Midnight Nation, Rising Stars, Supreme Power, Spider-man, and coming soon: Fantastic Four.

Oh don't remind me! The movies (there are two) are totally camp and not in spirit of the Allan Moore-era comics... not at all... I'm ashamed to admit that my fellow Hopkins-ite, Wes Craven, was behind the first one. Ouch.

heheh, i remember watching swamp thing. was my favourite show when i was a kid. wonder whether i still have the swamp thing action figure *rummages through old stuff*
I'm a big fan of all comics-I grew up with them. :D
When I was born, they didn't give me feeding botle-they gave me a comic!!! :prop:
No,seriously,I started collecting comics when I was 5 years old.I had weak costitution and was ill all the time and a friend of my mom bought me a comic-Tom and Jerry. And I was caught completely in the net of the comics world...I knew everything by heart, because I didn't know how to read, but I learned it very fast, and with 5 years I was able to read.Of course,it took me 3-4 hours to read a comic book which has 20 pages  ,but hey,I was 5...
In Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina),where I was born and lived until the war started 1992.,I had 1600 different comic books. But since we had to run away from the war,I lost it all. When I came to Serbia (Yugoslavia backthen),I started collecting it again! :bounce:
Now I have somewhere around 600,and still collecting it.Mostly, those are the comics originaly made in Italia, from Sergio Bonelli edition. Here are some of the characters:
Tex Willer,Dylan Dog,Martin Mystere,Zagor,Mister No,Ken Parker,Nick Raider...There are more,but I know only Serbian names,I'll check it out later.
Also here are some other:
Asterix,Alan Ford,Lucky Luke, and ofc Marvel Superheroes (they are not popular here, but since I'm a freak... ,but I only have few pieces of them).
Did anyone read anything from the comics listed above?
Also, did you see the movie Tex Willer and the Lord of the Deep?
Does anyone have it?I was searching the net and the DC++ constantly, but I didn't find it... :tears:

His english name is Stephen Chow. He is the guy who starred in Kungfu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer. He is also my favorite chinese comedian as well. And best of all, he could kick your ass and make you laugh at the same time.
