I just press ATLGR + e gets me é. Also there is a topic on this that Mayhem made, how to configure it properly.

yeah, alot of ppl have that setup. however, some ppl such as myself had to change some settings to do that. I believe thats the french setup, (not 100% sure). All of my friends seem to prefer it to the American version. alt+0233 is for American Keyboards/Drivers only. i dont know if their are any exceptions. sry.

And it is true... David is always first to respond to everything!

I used the alt + commands for about 6 years before I switched to the International keyboard setting. After a few days of getting used to it I found that it saved a heck of a lot of time, for someone who types in French a lot. The only problem is that there are still a few letters for which I still have to use the alt + commands, but the most common accents (é, è, à) require only two keystrokes now instead of five.

Looks like Riccardo replaced Mayhem's topic with this link (http://www.lehman.cuny.edu/deanhum/langlit/labs/keyboard.htm).

Which letters are you referring to? Cause I haven't found any that I cannot type using the International setting.

I kind of liked Mayhem's more :/

So... how can one write that special "E" with two dots on top of it.
Every time I want to write " Citroen " properly, I just cannot do it and have to replace it with ... " Renault" or something.

Ayan, assuming you're using the International keyboard layout it would be " + e.

And off the top of my head, the only character the International layout can't do without ALT codes is the "œ", which would be ALT + 0156 or 0140 if you want it uppercase.

I just press ' and than e -->é
For è(or à, ò, etc.) I press ` and e

you know you can change your keyboard to US International? It's much more efficient than the ALT commands, just press ' and the key, or alt. :)

French keyboard layout was so hard to get used to. Always putting Z's where my Y's were supposed to be.

The easiest way for somebody not familiar with French keyboard layout, is with US International layout (not US English):
'+e = é
`+e = è
^+e = ê
And the same with letter a

In Greek language we also have to place some accents in most words. So, doing the same in French, while typing quickly, was too easy for me, I was already used to do it. 8)
