I think the federal minimum wage is $6.50 per hour. Cities or states can pass laws to raise it beyond the federal minimum. For example, the last time I was in Santa Barbara their minimum wage was $10.00 per hour.

You mean minimum wage (le SMIC)? The federal minimum wage is $5.15 per hour, I believe, but it varies depending on the state. For someone working full time, that works out to about $9000 per year after taxes.

I think it depends on the job you have. I started mine with 5yrs of expeirence making $17.20 an hour on two 4hr shifts a day. I think their starting pay with no previous expierence is about $11 an hour and thi sis just for small modeling jobs... nothing big. but, enough to put me through college here in NYC. Then again... all the regular like fast food and etc jobs my friends say they started at about $5 some even $6 an hour...

Your right BIB. States and cities can raise it but not lower it.

As a high-schooler I worked for $8.50 an hour, but the Washington state minimum wage is $7.01. I hung around until after the Christmas party and Christmas bonus. Quit at the beginning of the year. Best job I ever had.

Yeah, the minimum is $5.15 an hour but most jobs will give you more than that. Probably around 6.50 - 8 dollars at an average job. All the jobs around where I live pay atleast $6.50 an hour.

Oregon's minimum wage is $7.05/hr. and will become $7.25/hr next year. I figure minimum wage compared to what it would buy. In the mid 60's minimum wage was $1.25/hr and gas was $.25/gal. Now the minimum wage is $7.05/hr and gas is $1.95/gal. That means an hour of minimum wage in the 60s would buy 5 gallons of gas. Today an hour of minimum wage will buy 3.6 gallons of gas. Employers who complain about raises in the minimum wage are full of fecal matter.

Sorry for OT.
Assuming that $1 = 3,2zl (z³oty - polish currency) and 1 gallon = 3,78 litres, gasoline in Poland costs around $4,35 per gallon. And monthly minimum wage is around $260 (average $625). So cheer up ;)
Of course it's all in approximation.

We will invade US with those old F-16's you sold us ;)
The problem is our greedy/stupid (practically no difference), socialistic government (and stupid majority of our voters, but they can't be blamed after 45 years of brainwashing).
I'm afraid that the only thing which could help us would be guy like Pinochet.
In words of Robert de Niro (Taxi Driver): "Someone needs to flush it down the fookin toilet" or something like this.

Sorry, I forgot that the rest of the world pays more for gas than we do. Can't complain much can I? I was just trying to compare wages. If every country tried to conquer oil rich countries, we'd be even worse off than we are. One of the most oil rich countries in the world is the US. Drivers here need to be able to drive large gas guzzling monster vehicles. The size of the vehicle makes up for the size of their penises.
