View Full Version : Indochine

Ok, with all the talk of the lead singer of Indochine, Nicola Sirkis, possibly being on board to write all or some of Alizée's next album (according to rumor), I was wondering what people here thought of this band.
I just sat down and listened to their most recent album, Paradize, for the first time last night. You can hear alot of the music from this album in the background on the Alizée FanDe videos from early 2003 (Do you think she might have requested their use? Or maybe hearing them there is how she became a fan of the group?).
Overall, I can't say I liked it... it had it's shinning moments, and they were bright (Electrastar, Mao Boy!, Le manoir), but the album was far too long in many places (perfectly good 3min songs are ruined by going on for 5min), and there's just something I don't like about their sound.
Any other thoughts? How do you all feel about the possibility of Sirkis writing for Lili? I guess I can see it, but I'm not sure if I like it: a few songs from him on the caliber of those mentioned above would be ace, but anything more might get tedious for me.
Oh... I should admit that Electrastar is totally stuck in my head now, so I guess they are doing something right...

I think their music is funny, but nothing more than that. I don't think it's a good idea if Indochine's gonna write the music for Alizée. My favourite indochine song is J'ai demandé a la lune. But actually that's the only song I really know. I mean, I've heard more of their music, but the only one I heard on the radio was that song..

I like this band a lot.
It's an old band, so you could try other albums like WAX or 3 to understand how they evolved during their carried (they began in 1981).
I would really like Nicola Sirkis to write for Alizée, because his universe is a sort of teenage's one : sex, dark romanticism, difficulty to live in this world, etc. It could bring a lot to Alizée

i cant be bothered to go indochine cast member info hunting, so i will ask here
is this N. Sirkis person a male or female? the gender could be significant to future lyrics/emotions in alizee's songs..

A male. It's been discussed various times here.

Ah, Atari... in the movie Blade Runner they tried to depict a "realistic" future by showing how growing companies from the time (early 80s) will have taken over everything... so if you look closely, you can see giant neon Atari signs in the film. Hah, and look where they are now. Sad. Anyway... back to the topic: Indochine - Lili's savior or antichrist?

despite what some people say about the aim of this type of music, this all rocks to me. I love the punk/alternative thing.
If there was one band I would compare if I have to, i'd try to draw up Orgy, but Indochine is different enough too.
And this is one of the first songs I'd heard by them, nice and familiar. Rock On!

Probably not - Alizée isn't a whole lot like Mylène on stage... yeah, I'm pretty sure that (if true) it's just a musical thing... maybe some maturing of visual and stage style, yes, but I doubt she wants to become an Indochine Junior or anything...
Anyway, maybe I'll just upload the whole album later so we can make better judgments (and cause people have been hammering me for it in the hubs).

Not so much... of course there was Melissa auf der Maur, ex bassist of Hole and Smashing Pumpkins.
There was also a french actress, Juliette Binoche, who spoke at the beginning of PUNISHMENT PARK.
Another french actress sings a little bit on LES SILENCES DE JULIETTE, she is called Marie Guillard.
I guess that's all...
And as far as the shows are concerned, don't worry : this band can be really sweet on stage. They made in 01 an acoustic tour, it was really peaceful. Even in the last DVD in Bercy, there was an acoustic part, with sweet songs... Their music is not only composed of rock songs ! It's a pop band, I think, before being a rock band...

First of all. I'm one of those who wants a free internet (free to share music, movies, games and applications). But still i like to buy original stuffs from the artists i like. Since i am not able to go to an Indochine concert for a while they won't get any money from me through ticket sales.

I think Nicola would know how to make a good pop sound, if the sound has to be partly pop. Indochine's sound is partly pop themselves as it is. I would be very excited if Nicola took Alizée into the future, I think he could probably make some tunes that are very fresh, and probably better than you could even expect.
However I would like to know a few things, such as,
What do the French generally think of Indochine?
What do they do in terms of sales, tv play, charts, and tv and radio rankings?
Is it really possible for them to collaborate, when they have such different fanbases? (who knows, maybe if it happens, it will be just about as shadowy as Laurent is).
..On the other hand...if it happens, I wonder if they might ever do any special performances together! Can you imagine Nicola and Alizée singing together on the stage...face to face???

People on the Indochine forum have mixed feelings about this rumour of Nicola working with Alizée...

(The forum is in french.. but i took a little help from Babelfish :P)
Also read that Nicola wanted to make "Moi Nicola" during the Paradize tour......

That's a very valid question. Most likely another french artist that we've never heard of who will never compare to our sweet Alizée.

I am now sharing Indochine's DVD "L'Intergrale des clips" on the hub. It has 28 clips in all, 26 music videos, and 2 live performances.
I bought it on amazon.fr. http://www.amazon.fr/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0007MR15S/qid=1114673587/sr=1-4/ref=sr_1_10_4/402-3335489-5036103 item: Indochine : L'intégrale des clips (Son Remasterisé en haute-définition)
You will need to mount this ISO file onto a virtual drive like Dameon tools, the same thing you do with the un fee nomee and merci DVD's.

As I had to give my main hdd to service, for last few weeks I have been doomed to listen to only a limited number of mp3s. Indochine live album being among them (au Zenith 1986). Well, actually I like it. Things happen, you know.
