FAQ for New Users

What is DC++?
DC++ is a file sharing program. Think Kazaa or Winmx, only it works a little differently… the network is built around hubs, or channels, where users of a similar interest can meet, chat, and exchange files.

Where can I get DC++?
Download the latest client right here:

Ok, great – so how do I configure this thing?
After installing the program, open it up and go into the settings window if that’s not already open. In the "Personal Information" options choose a nick-name for yourself, and in the "Sharing" options make sure you have at least 2 upload slots and are sharing a folder with at least a gig of Alizée related content (if you don’t have anything to share yet, look down a few questions here for suggestions). Give your files time to hash. This could take a few minutes. Two last options to tick are "Automatically search for alternative download locations" and "Automatically match queue for auto search hits" in the "Queue" options under "Downloads". Now you are ready to connect to the Alizée hub.

How do I connect to the Alizée hub?
Once you’ve got everything configured, you can connect in a number of ways. You can go to File --> Quick Connect, or you to “Favorites” and add the hub as a kind of bookmark by clicking on “New.” The address of the hub is alizee.myftp.org. The first time you connect, you'll need to register. Type in "!regme <password>" in the main chat and wait for a response from an Op. Exit the hub and re-join. You'll be prompted for your password. You can edit your "Favorites" bookmark to store your password information.

I’m in! How do I get what I want?
There are two ways to find files in DC++. Click the “Search” button to bring up a Kazaa-like search window, or right click on a fellow user's name to download their file list (which shows all the files currently in their shared folders). Remember: like you, each user has a limited number of upload slots. So if you get a “No Slots Available” message, try finding another user with the same file (you can set files to queue from multiple sources), or simply wait until a slot opens up. You may have to be patient! Leave the hub open overnight and you will most likely get what you want. If you’re still having trouble, you can ask one of the users in the hub or mIRC channel (info below) for help.

Help, I can’t connect to the hub / any user!
If you are getting connection errors, the first thing to try is setting DC++ to passive mode in the general settings / connection window. If you’re still having trouble, check your computer or network’s firewall settings. If all else fails, ask someone for help.

A note on legality
DC++ is a completely legal piece of software. In the hub, we try to limit the files shared to public domain TV broadcasts. Please do your part by not sharing copyrighted material. Thanks.

If you having trouble playing any video files from the hub, here are two pieces of software I recommend.
For AVIs and similar files, you probably need a proper codec pack. Download ffdshow here:

The hub and DC++ itself is not illegal (and neither is kazaa). It's all in how you use it. We try to keep it limited to files of TV broadcasts, which are legal public domain for distribution. Just stay away from copyrighted material and you'll be fine.

Kazaa isn't ilegal? Wow. That's the first time I've heard that. Last time I know authorities were supposedly raiding houses and charging illegal downloaders with $1,000 per song or any material dowloaded (atleast according to my teacher). Kazaa is full of spyware as well so I'm glad this Alizee Hub is spyware-free exist. Thanks again for the instructions Snatch! Been looking to get into this hub for a while now.

Re: Kazaa: Getting copyrighted material off Kazaa is illegal, but use of the software itself is not. This was decided by the verdict of the court case Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, Inc v. Grokster, Ltd.

The stories of fines and raids are only for individual users known for violating copyrights (and they are usually large scale uploaders only).

Yes, same kind of thing.. but Emule sucks! There both P2P ( Peer2Peer ) Sharing systems along with Winmx. Also the rules say share 2 GiG of Alizée stuff... but as long as you share most of your Alizée stuff and anything else to make up the silly 2 gig number. Then, once you download more than 2 gig, then you can share all Alizée stuff. Its hard first starting out.. but download from the right users.. and ull have a good selection of Alizée videos in no time.

Are you in passive mode or active mode? The problem you're having usually happens if you're in active mode and you haven't configured it correctly. If you're behind a firewall and can't control it, you should stay in passive mode. However, it's usually better to be in active mode. I'm not sure if it's the same if it's a software firewall.

Hey, I'm not trying to be a jerk, but how do you limit upload speeds on DC++. I have a few other people on my network and DC++ maxes it out. I want to still keep it at about 15k/s but I don't know how. Any suggestions?

It can't be done with the official DC++ client. You're going to have use a 3rd party client such as BCDC++ (http://utrum.dyndns.org:8000/).

In that case I will help. Um, the hub is up because I am in it right now. Are you using active mode? Your ip may have changed. Go to whatismyip.com and copy that to your search and download port ip address box. Otherwise I have no idea. Have you connected before?

I've been on the Hub for a couple of months now. A few days ago, a message popped up that said there was a new version of DC++ availible. I downloaded the new version and installed it. Now, I can't connect at all. I tried active and passive mode. Maybee a virus?

Well what I've noticed is that no one really checks to see what you share, just get Alizee stuff quickly. Had 25% of the two gigs as alizee files i had found in other places at first and now I have 25 gigs of her only shared. I think people are pretty understanding.

I just checked em and they work... but keep in mind that because of the weird way the forum handles linking, you are not able to do a right-click save-as... so just left click, or cut and paste the urls into a download manager or something like that (suggestion: Getright (http://www.getright.com/)).

Hey man we do, just that many of us don't put those on Kazaa. If you already have the necessary setup to use that program just get on the DC++ hub. There are a lot of people including me who share those vids. I'm up at least 14-24 hours a day so it shouldn't be a problem to get them. Good luck finding this stuff.

Well, I recently DLed DC++, and I didn't have a problem connecting to the server, but I couldn't find any files. My searches came up blank, I couldn't get file lists from anyone, and it was almost like no files were being shared. Maybe I'm missing something.

Were you in active mode with the proper ip? go to "www.whatsmyip.com" and paste that address into the general settings search IP boxes. I have the same problem when my IP changes so I just paste the new one in the blanks. Good luck!

Hashing is perfectly normal. It's just taking into account all the files you're sharing, noting their file name, size, etc... so when you go into the hub, it can tell which files are the same, even if their names are different, so people can download the same file from different sources. (I hope I got that right).

You don't have to do anything. After you've set your shared file folder(s), it'll do the hashing for you automatically.

If file hashing is giving you a problem, download this older version of DC++:

It does not use file hashing.

Like I said, it should hash automatically. On the bottom of your DC++ client window, it should say something like "Finished hasing C:\folder\filename" and it'll go through all the files you have in your list. It happens in the background, so you may not notice it unless your hard drive is loud and can hear it clicking. If you still think your files haven't been hashed, try closing the program and restarting it. By default, it'll hash new files on startup. Other than that, I don't know what else you could do.

Ok,guys!Now I have a very serious problem with DC++,and the who solves it will get 10$ from my first paycheck (ever) :mrgreen: .(it is not much for you,but for me it is one hell of the reward-so don't be ungrateful,take it or leave it :evil: )So take your pencils,computers,books or whatever you need :type: and listen very carefully because I shall say this only once:

I use proxy server at my faculty (actaully-THEY are using it,I just come and take whatever I can :roll: from time to time).The connection is very fast and good,but I have problems with DC++.I spent almost 45 minutes persuading a guy who works here to give me 2 GB of free space for Alizee related material,so I could connect to the hub.And finally I get it!!! :mrgreen: I can use it for the public hubs,but I can't connect to the private hubs,in this case ours: alizee.myftp.org

I have tried almost everything:

1)changed the DC++ version;
2)tried to use the sockscap programme,and then launch the DC++through it,but I couldn't install it because some administrator has changed some parameters and got an error/message that I'm not allowed to install it everytime I tried-it's the same with all versions;
3) read almost all (useless :roll: ) Help about the DC++
4)tried to correct some of the settings in the DC++

but none of this worked for me. :cry:

The full name is just the Ip resolved to the hostname. It should work for the IP, or if not try the hostname.

Kepp trying socks5 proxies, but make sure they are alive.. thats all i can think of, unless your UNI can configure the router or something for it to work. I don't know much about the connection side, but maybe try using a port that you know you can connect to?

You have that kind of message because you must have at least two GB of Alizee related material to connect to the hub.Also,on the first page of this topic you have some links from which you can download some Alizee videos.Download it and go to "Settings" in DC++ and put it into "Sharing".

First thing to try is setting connection mode to passive (File --> Settings --> Connection... Passive). Let me know if that doesn't work. What is your name in the hub?

It sounds like a Firewall/router problem. Configure your firewall/router to enable the ports, or if you are using windows xp.. turn off the default firewall.

As far as I understand it just put your Alizée vids up in a folder called "Alizée" or something so people can find it easily.

you will not be kicked from the hub if you share other things than Alizée. So many other people share so much stuff not Alizée related, or French related. Share whatever you like, as long as you have some sort of Alizée stuff, it's fine =)

Just make sure you open 2 mores slosts. ( 2 slots per hub scripted )

Solution 1:

Connect to any DC++ hub and search for Alizee videos there.I'm sure you will find 1.2 GB,which should be enough.THEN you can connect to Alizee hub,and find whatever you need.At least,that is what I did when I didn't have 2 GB of Alizee material. :cheesy:

Solution 2:

Ask for some videos here (but say which),and maybe someone will upload it on "yousendit" server.The link will be there for seven days,and it will have limited number of downloads.
And I can't help you with that 3 GB adsl limit....

If none of this works-go work for few years,earn money,come to Europe (but not Serbia :cheesy: ) and THEN you will have all Alizee you can handle... :mrgreen:

I am guessing you mean the video when she performed that song at Le Tour de France. There are a bunch of short clips of a certain part of that video out there easily found on the internet so I'm guessing this is it.

Unfortunately, I don't believe anybody has that video. It's one of those performances that may never be seen again, like the mysterious ACC Disney video. A while back, I think some Polish fan(s) tried acquiring a video copy of that from the TV studio, but they didn't have it anymore. Sorry.

That's because the guy from you try to download file has allready all his uploads slots in use.

All you can do is just wait that he opens at least one slot. Or try to find that same file from some another member who has at least one slot open :wink:

It's not some sort of server that you upload files to. It is a sharing program meaning that people will search in the files you have on your shared list, choose which to download, and download those files from you, while you upload them. Just wait, I'm sure after you have shared more Alizée files, more people will come along looking for them.

Most likely you have active mode on but you have wrong ip (or no ip at all) set up in settings. Make it correct and everything will work again.

It isn't website but direct connect hub. DC uses it's own protocol (HTTP = Hyper Text Transfel Protocol).

As long as you have two gigabytes worth of something to share, you can enter the hub. Once in there, you can then begin building up your Alizee files until there's 2 gigabytes worth of her stuff. Then just move the Floyd stuff elsewhere and simply share the Alizee stuff. It's what I did.

You can remove ur bricks if you have open ports... otherway you have to be passive... and of course, it´s better to be active, passive is worst case :wink:

You need to fill in your IP address in options where it asks it. After that the search will work.

you need TCP and UDP ports open !!!

if you have TCP port open then you can download passive lists

i read the help file already, and i was wondering, how can you resume a file that is incomplete? from reading the help guide, it seems that if it has a tth root, it can be resumed.

It will resume it automaticly if there's user online who has the file (and if the user has open slots. If no open slots, then you'll be added in download queue to wait slot to open).

If you have automatic search on, it will do search every now and then to find more users. If you don't have it on, you can do search it manually (by right clicking the file in queue and selecting serch).

Hey guys, after helping someone last nite on configuring dc++ and port forwarding, I found this cool site. Since not all routers are the same, they've made it easy to configure any given router with most of the popular programs out there such as DC++.

1. Go to the page and click on your specific model router
2. On the next page, click on the program that you wish to open a port for and use

It will give you a detailed tutorial on how to set things up, including router specific screenshots! You can use this guide on pretty much any popular program that requires an open port, such as communications, p2p programs, chat client filesends, etc.

I hope some of you find it useful!

*edit* Actually there is one important step that the tutorial does not tell you to do, which is turn off any software firewalls you may have on (such as windows firewall, zone alarm, norton firewall, etc.) WinXP has firewall turned on by default. A software firewall is generally not needed since your router acts as a firewall. If you must use a firewall, then you will have to open the port on that firewall as well as on your router. Some of you may not use a router and have the modem hooked directly to your computer; in this case you will need to use a software firewall and open a port for this.

As a result, I had to implement security features that make the hub a truely PRIVATE and EXCLUSIVE hub-- you MUST register to be able to use the features of the hub. No big deal, you're sharing no personal information. You're also protecting your nick from others being able to use it.

Here is what you do:

Type in "!userhelp" in main chat,

Then "!regme <password>" in the dialog box that comes up.

Why did I get banned? I stored the right password!!


i got banned for the same reason but it wasn't my fault! i was trying that new account system but every time i typed my password it just disconnects me this new security measure dosn't make sense to me HELP, i want to get back on the hub so bad can someone get me off this bann!

It would be nice if digimaze could drop by.. But I think that this problem is gonna be solved pretty soon. I don't think there is any reason to be worried yet. digimaze is doing the best he can, probably working his ass off right now!

1) the use of brackets "<>" around your password.
2) putting in your username before your password. That will make the COMBINATION your password!
3) if you screw up TWICE-----STOP!!!!! Enter the hub withoout logging in (maybe under a differant nick) then once you're in, PM me and I'll sort things out for you.

The ban is an IP address ban. I will be happy to unban you. Send me a private message here or through someone in the hub and I'll unban your IP address.

The GOOD news is we've eliminated about 90% of the leechers from the hub.
The BAD news is I've been up almost 24 hours straight sorting all this out.

I hope you guys are worth it.....(lol)

Yay for digi! HELLO EVERYONE-- Unfortunatly, someone who was banned from the hub decided to get his revenge by publicly listing the hub. Over the past couple of weeks we've been flooded with spammers, leechers and porn.

As a result, I had to implement security features that make the hub a truely PRIVATE and EXCLUSIVE hub-- you MUST register to be able to use the features of the hub. No big deal, you're sharing no personal information. You're also protecting your nick from others being able to use it.

Here is what you do:

Type in "!userhelp" in main chat,

Then "!regme <password>" in the dialog box that comes up.

BTW this happened after I had succesfully logged on with a password.

I got a message stating that my IP was banned (like the most/rest of us), but while I was logged on and bussy downloading/uploading. (?)

I see digimaze said the server crashed, but when I try to reconnect I get the message "Your ASS is banned!" LOL
Can that come up even though the server has crashed?

Just want to know if I'm doing something wrong or should I/We wait till a problem gets fixed.

And two, wait until your not IPBan(until your IP changes or digimaze does something :P) and try /password <insert password here> with and w/o brackets

------HOW TO REGISTER------

Step one-- put "!userhelp" in main chat
Step two-- put "!regme (Password)" in the dialog box in Robocop.
(For example- if you wanted "1234" as your password, you would put in "!regme 1234")
Step three- shut down dc++
Step four- Re-start dc++ and enter your password in the dialogue box when it is requested.
(It will be required every time you visit the hub from now on,

You were banned because you closed your connections when people try to download from you. That's what the Hub Security says.
