Alizee is a native of Ajaccio, on the island of Corsica, which just so happens to be the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte. In her brief career, Alizee has swept through Europe -- like a certain Emperor -- with her pop appeal. But will she have her Waterloo as well?

OMG- :D
I did nto know that- omg omg! It was meant to bE!!!

Hehe, I thought maybe you did pick the username Napoleon as a reference to Alizée's native Corsica. Last time I checked, it said Napoleon was born there.

Have you looked at the lyrics to "Tempête" yet? Alizée makes references to Napoleon in that song.

Tempete is pretty much about Napoleon
yeah, she's quite aware that Napoleon came from the same place
Alizée did what Napoleon couldn't, conquer Europe

He's just about the most famous Corsican who ever lived so... probably. I wonder if Alizee is at least partially Italian (Napoleon's name was originally Napoleone Buonaparte and he didn't learn French until he was 10).

Napoleon was defeated at Waterloo, but before he has lost in russian winter! Welcome to Russia, Napoleon!

I still don't understand why everyone talks about this Napoleon guy when Alizée was born there. Doesn't she trump all who came before her?

It's hard for me to understand how Russians could be proud of defeating Napoleaon when it was the weather that did it.

Napoleon

Nap was a great general and was on the verge of conquering most of the well known world.. the greatest general of all time IMO

The weather played a role in stopping Hitler's attack of Russia too y'know
And it was then that the Russians manage to kick his ass all the way back

Maybe because they stopped the invader, I guess. Me, I wouldn't be proud of Napoleón if I was French, but for example in Russia, Napoleón's troops went in a deserted Moscow and could advance that much cos Russians were falling back while they burnt all the barns, so when the French noticed that they didn't have got any food left, it was winter and there was no going back. They run the country, but of course died. So that simple strategy defeated the so called greatest general of all time, like I've read before :)

Weather was only one of factors which have stopped Napoleon near Moscow... It fun to think that only weather has won French army, it was made firstly by all Russian people, however!
I do not know how it will be in english, but we say that at home even walls help...

The Russians throw waves of people in suicidal tactics and eventually win their battles with no tactics, thus costing many lives. But I mean hell, they can afford it. They've got so many people. You can keep your "Russian Winter".

How can you even compare Napolean Bonaparte to Alizée? They are not even in the same league. They are from two different time periods and led VERY different lives. One is a pop singer and the other is the general that almost conquered all of Europe. The only thing they had in common was the birthplace, Corsica. That said, saying that Alizée is greater than Napoleon is not only irrelevant, but ridiculously fanboyish. I love Alizée and all but I just can stand it when people say that she has somehow brushed Napoleon, one of the greatest FRENCHmen ever lived, into the dustbin of forgetfulness. I mean, the man is a legend in history for pete's sake! So aren't we all just getting a bit too obsessive when we utter such words of blasphemy?

But he died from eating too many potatoes. :P

Yeah, it's irrelevant to compare the two of them. If it wasn't for Napoleon, we may not have France as we know it today. Too bad he let us Americans talk him into making one of the worst real estate decisions of the past 300 years. :P But hey, it's all just fun and games talking about the two of them in the same sentence.

Then he was a legend who was also a tyrant

Alizée and he have made the names of Corsica and Ajaccio more famous :P hehe

«La mort n'est rien, mais vivre vaincu et sans gloire, c'est mourir tous les jours.»

Easy to say for him.

No I haven't.. but for you I can try to find... however, if I'll step on antipersonnel mine and die, you must say to Alizee about my feat!

Manu is right yep...it's true though Alizée has definitely made Corsica and Ajaccio more notable to many people...and so yes she is pretty influencial, she's more important to me than Napoleon anyway

Conquering people by killing them with an army is not the same as conquering them with charm and beauty. Alizée is more important to me than Napoleon. Napoleon may be remembered longer in history books, but only because he horribly affected people's lives by killing them.

Alizée affects people's lives by helping them think of beauty. No contest.

Well, anyway, I went to the haircut place and requested a "French" cut Napoleon-style. So bach. :cheesy:

Regardless, he left us with some great quotes!

"They think I am stern, even hardhearted. So much the better-this makes it unnecessary for me to justify my reputation. My firmness is taken for callousness. I shall not complain, since this notion is responsible for the good order that is prevailing, so that there is nothing that needs to be repressed."

"I am not moved by the tears of a duchess, but the sufferings of the people touch me."

"Even when I am gone, I shall remain in people's minds the star of their rights, my name will be the war cry of their efforts, the motto of their hopes."

winning people's hearts and minds is a tad harder than with force and brutality... as we've seen pretty recently in the world in a certain somewhere...
