Hello everyone.

I am the webmaster of LeSigh.com. A couple things:

Thanks for the linkage. I'm currently working hard on lesigh, it will become much, much more than an alizee site in the near future. By Snatcher42's comment, I have changed the title pic.

Until recently, the site hadn't really been advertised and was only doing about 20GB of bandwidth per month. A few days ago Lesigh must have been linked somewhere quite large, as it has done over 200GB of bandwidth in the last 3 days. This is the reason for the bandwidth exceeded message. From time you time you will also receive another error about capacity. I had to limit lesigh to 50 simultaneous connections, as it was simply placing too much load on the server. I have bumped the max bandwidth up a bit, but I don't know how much longer that will last at the current rate. If the bandwidth exceeded message shows up again, give it some time and I'll bump the bandwidth some more, though I may have to take some of the videos offline for a few days. A paypal donation button has been added for those who find it to be a valuable resource, but I certainly have nothing against leechers or those who don't think the easy downloads and massive amounts of bandwidth the site uses are worth a dollar or two :wink:

All I ask right now is that you do not post links to lesigh on other forums. While I understand the idea of wanting to get word of alizee out, the site really isn't of much use if I can't supply an adequate amount of bandwidth to it.

I will be adding a few more videos in the next day or 2 (I have about 25 gigs of videos to sort through and re-encode with xvid), so keep an eye on the site. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask and I will do my best to give a decent response.

Can you let me know which ones you have noticed problems on? Some of the videos went way out of sync (~.6 seconds) when converted to xvid and I did my best to correct them, but they may not be perfect. If you see noticeable syncing problems, please post the name of the video and I will do my best to sync it better.

Also, what speed CPU and how much RAM do you have? xVid with this high resolution and bitrate will tend to go out of sync on weaker systems.

Thanks for the info, I will look into the sync issues.
For converting to mp3, I use the LAME mp3 codec and convert the video with virtualdub. If you have ever done a DVDRip, you will probably know that some DVD audio tracks have a delay on them for some random unknown reason, and I believe this is what is going on. The small amount of silence at the beginning is where I adjusted the delay so it wasn't extremely obviously out of sync. If the delay is more than about half a second, try following this link

and installing that. Let me know if the delay is fixed after installing that.

I really can't remember if I had trouble with the stars a domicile video, as it was a few weeks ago that everything was encoded. If you would like to mess around with the audio syncing a bit, the utility I use is uploaded at

Since all of these videos have been re-encoded to xvid, there should be some quality loss, but if you have a copy of a video that is noticeably better than what is on the site or is in higher resolution, please let me know as I am trying to keep only the highest quality content I can find.

Though I have not checked the videos yet, since you said the audio goes out of sync near the end... that just doesn't seem right. It should be no more out of sync near the end than at the beginning. It doesn't sound like your system would cause this problem either, unless you have xvid's post processing settings turned way up. I'll look into it though.

But I'll redownload one now to check...

Just redownloaded Alizee-A_Contre_Courant- Rien_que_du_bonheur_06-09-2003.avi... tested it, and it might actually be a local problem after all... because it seems to only be out of sync when using Media Player Classic (MPC) and DivxPlayer... Looks ok in Winamp and WMP9... gonna get La Isla Bonita again to see if it's the same with that one...

EDIT: Yup, same situation is La Isla...
MPC, DivX = Bad
WMP, Winamp = good

Dunno why this would be... all my other Xvids play fine on everything... but if its playing alright in some players, then the problem is most likely on my end. Sorry for bothering you with this then, I guess!

Watching La Isla Bonita in MPC, and I see exactly what you're talking about - it's exactly how it was before I fixed the sync problems. It seems that the tool I use simply tells the application to wait a certain amount of time before playing the audio stream, instead of actually modifying the stream. Seems as if MPC doesn't pay attention to that command. I'll see if I can re-encode them with corrected streams.

On one hand, I want to have the highest quality content I can find. On the other hand, I re-encoded to xvid to save bandwidth, disk space, and to make it so users would only need one codec for all videos. Do you think it would be better if I offered the original files instead and put links to each individual codec?

For the time being, I have taken the files offline to prepare for the site launch on September 25. For the first couple months, access to the site will be by invite only. I will offer an invite to anyone on this board who wishes to have one, all you have to do is ask in this thread and I will send you a private message with the invite link when the time comes.

As with any project going into testing, I would like those who request an invite to be willing to do more than just leech. I don't mind if you download until your ISP shuts your connection off for using too much bandwidth, but this is more to test the scripts the site will use than to test the server's ability to send out large files, which I already know it can do 8) In other words, I want people who will keep coming back instead of just leeching and leaving. I want people who will test new features and re-test old features. Feedback from testers in the forms of bug reports, feature requests, or just general comments on how to improve the site will be greatly appreciated.

I will be adding anywhere from 10 to 20 GB of content during the 2-month testing period to make sure testers have a reason to return to the site. At the end of the testing period, testers will be given accounts with less restrictions than accounts that will be immediately available to the general public, but you'll have to wait until the test is nearing completion to find out exactly what will be different :)

I think some players may have problems playing the videos if this is not done, but I'm not really sure. Yes, I figured that was why it was happening on my videos, but somehow hyper-scale "fixed" things... dunno if it introduced any compatibility problems, but so far things seem OK...

I'm not a video expert, but I guess I know a bit more than some people... and I'll help all I can... so PM or AIM if ya need anything or have a question. As you suggested, I'll do the same if anything further comes up.

I don't remember anymore, all I know is that ffdshow is one of the first things I installed after a recent format, and I had to install at least 3 other codecs on top of that.

Hmm, a few months ago I was having some codec conflicts so I basically went and uninstalled all my video software except for PowerDVD. I then re-installed ffdshow... and things have been working fine since then.

One other note on the vertical stretching issue... on some of your vids, most noticeably SAD 2003, it looked like there was interlacing issues... only it was far less noticeable than what would normally show up in an incorrectly de-interlaced clip. This happened in several of my encodes as well, but seemed improve once I enabled hyper-scale... so it may actually be a by-product of the vertical stretching.
