View Full Version : Discussion about spam and forum activity

15th July 2004, 03:04
Okay guys and gals, time for a long overdue announcement. What we want to do is limit the amount of spam and unnecessary posts. Much of this takes place in the General forum, such as the "favorite song/movie/TV show/music video" of the day. From now on, if you want to post in these threads, you need to at least say why it's your favorite song, movie, etc. Any posts that consist of just the title are going to be deleted. The General forum is for discussion, with the key word being discussion. This makes for a more interesting forum.

Additionally, one-word posts like "LOL" or consisting of just a smiley will most likely be deleted. This applies to the whole forum. In any case, if you find that your post is deleted, it's nothing personal; just that we're trying to make things run a little more smoothly (no old posts will be deleted though). These changes will be reflected in the forum rules as well. Also, off-topic is OK, but if it gets out of hand, a different thread will be set up (or you can do it yourself) if people wish to discuss another subject further.

These changes apply to the whole forum.

We'll leave this announcement open for discussion below for awhile, to let you guys have your say, whether you agree or disagree; any other suggestions are welcome as well. One rule: no fighting.

Thats ok , i agree with all these. It could be nice if you or someone know programming could put a number of minimum charachters that are alowed to post something...

Lía

what a good rule!!! :) good luck!!!

Yup nothin wrong with that man, i think that's fully justified to be honest and i would expect the majority of forum members to agree

Manu
16th July 2004, 04:44
I agree, there're too many "of the day" threads, but I'd like the "song of the day" one to stay, I don't care the others though :D

AlizéeInMYHeart
16th July 2004, 06:40
yeah, I agree also.....and yeah^....the song of the day is great....I get new songs to dl everyday :) ...bands I have never heard of before

Backinblack
16th July 2004, 15:17
We're going to keep those threads, but from now on you have to comment on your choice, talk about it a little, instead of just posting a title. The "Word Game" thread will probably be closed though.

Thanasis: It's going to be pretty much a judgment call by the Mods to see if a post is short enough to merit deletion. Automatically limiting the number of characters might get rid of some posts that deserve to stay there.

This discussion will be open for a couple more days.

Lía

i'm not too fussed about the word game.... i'm already bored of it......

What about the suggestion of only one daythread. Called as ... "Daythread" :P

It would look something like :

Favorite song:
Favorite Songquote:
Favorite movie of the day;
Favorite moviequote of the day:
Favorite TV show of the day:
Favorite music video of the day:
Favorite bubblegum flavor of the day:

etc etc,

Also, the original purpose of Favorite 5 Lilisongs (http://www.alizee-forum.com/viewtopic.php?t=4811) thread has been forgotten. Would be rather wise to either force the rules to that thread more, or add that also among the daythreads. It didnt used to be a daythread before. People actually posted their favorite Lilisongs in there. Now it has become a daythread.
Its a shame actually.

Looking forward to angry commets.

I think this Daythread idea would work well!

Favorite song:
Favorite Songquote:
Favorite movie of the day;
Favorite moviequote of the day:
Favorite TV show of the day:
Favorite music video of the day:
Favorite bubblegum flavor of the day:

i did something like that on my old forum, which worked really well... now my forum is becoming multi-lingual... i should enforce it more and re-introduce it to my new forum.... (btw on my forum it was called "Faves of the day"

but do something like that on here please!!!!

Petsku1
16th July 2004, 19:26
also then when and if these are closed... some 'certain' people should not start/ continue 'offtopiccing' ...things like "the hub is down" (besides many other things) or making a new topic inside a thread... hmm...

Backinblack
17th July 2004, 17:33
Okay, that looks like a good way to reduce the amount of unnecessary posts. We can do a "favorites" thread and include all the stickied topics, as well as your favorite Alizée song or songs. And if you want to talk about why you chose your song/movie/etc, then go ahead.

And yes, there will be a more concerted effort to limit the offtopic stuff.

Lía
17th July 2004, 17:45
thank you!!

ok i think that the thread should be called "Fave Things of the day" and include fave soing, music vid, tv prog, movie, food, drink, alizée song, alizée vid, cd (as in album or single), game.....

i reckon we should start a thread to discuss the favs of day! :cheesy:

Alizée-forum team

From the day I see Backinblack come to this forum, to this moment, he is an admin now, I was not wrong, he's a great guy and able to manage the forum. Turning a crap poo to a an golden empire. Good

I fully support your idea. That's good to delete all the "xxx of the day", "^ Game", etc... This is a better control. I see many forum didn't have this problem and now you gonna solve it. Great job.
But I have remind you not to confuse with some imginative topic, like someone post, are not spam, they just have another way to connect with people. I hope you will delete all the trash topic and left all the good topic safe.

Best,
Marcus

Backinblack
18th July 2004, 07:04
I wouldn't have necessarily called the forum a "crap poo" before, but thanks for the comments, Marcus. And it's not just me doing the work, it's the mod and admin team working together. Anyway, the changes go into effect as of now. Don't hesitate to notify us if you have questions or problems.

Well, closing those threads has its pros, but they sure brought a lot of fun and enjoyment in the forum too. It's just too bad that a lot of memory space is used in the process.

Manu
18th July 2004, 20:23
I think we've always had offtopics in a lot of threads, since the very beginning, so I don't see any problem with them. Of course there's a limit, but I'd just let conversations flow (taking no swearing, insults, etc. for granted, of course)

Jaycubed
19th July 2004, 05:33
Good point Manu, a little offtopic can sometimes lead to opening up new avenues concerning things that bring a new topic of discussion into effect, i think normative judgements have to be used, i know that's not that easy to do, but if it's possible it's the best way

I wish people would do that. I hate cussing when people have no need for it. When you get punched in the face for no reason by some kid, then you may cuss, or if you hit a car with a rock or something... I think people should follow what I do and @*#$$& use those^^) I also believe in order... so I firmly agree wastes of space should be dealt with, and if the topic is solely created for the purpose of bashing the forum/Alizée then it should be ignored. There's no use in arguing back, and even IMO converting them is futile... They will always be like that, and we are after all, the few and the proud^^) in the US, anyawy. (that is refering to the relatively small number of American devotees, not the motto for the US Army^^)

Riccardo
19th July 2004, 16:16
good discussion. but yeah maybe we shouldnt delete all posts, just close them and open some favourite threads like it was mentionend here.

@BackinBlack ill be right back on, i wasnt due to some pc problems and work of course. But its getting better.

Just let me know the rules and i will send those to my german friends to translate them. and please let spanish, ploish and ... people , especially admins know about that issue.

Tell them what we figured out and apply it to the forum please.

thanks man.

BTW does anyone know a phpBB Mod that limits the minimum words in each post in order to prevent ppl from spaming?

If anyone can help PM me please

Backinblack
19th July 2004, 21:31
No posts have been deleted; the previous threads were just closed. I wrote a small addendum which we can look at before adding it to the rules.

The only thing with limiting the number of words (or characters) is that the minimum would have to be quite small, only a few characters, because sometimes it might catch a short post that was otherwise acceptable.

Riccardo
20th July 2004, 06:23
what should be the mimimum of characters for each post, in case the hack for phpBB works...

Creature
20th July 2004, 15:28
what if we can also close "Post what are you doing thread" and the person above. because everyday its the same, for example, every new page begins the same (he is the second on that page,.... he is the third, etc.)
just think about it....

Creature
20th July 2004, 15:29
somethink like more than 10 at least. coz sometimes i even noticed posts like (...............................) just dots.

Riccardo
20th July 2004, 18:48
what is the minimum amount of characters which need to be posted?

actually the limit is 20 characters

Creature
20th July 2004, 18:59
if its usuall so let it be, just make it, by the way what do you think about my suggestion?

Riccardo

good idea but ask backinblack please cause i dont have that much time yet. but i think thats ok..

I think we could also need a topic for new users to introduce themselves.
Even if its not 'too' neccessary, it will still be better than to have countless of " Hi im new here" threads in the general section.

Mr Bond
23rd July 2004, 00:17
Yes that is a good idea. The post should have a link to the rules of the forum hopefully this would encourage more people to read them.

Lía
23rd July 2004, 13:54
yeah!! good idea!!

that will be better as then all the intros will be in one place... but if you are going to introduce yourselves then you should add some info about you!

Piece Of Paradise
25th July 2004, 09:47
And also maybe the videos request topic could be made more visible so that new users who log on will know it's there immediately.

Riccardo
25th July 2004, 10:52
in the german section we made something like a introduce yourself page.

look here: http://www.alizee-forum.com/viewtopic.php?t=5651

but there is no discussion allowed just information. discussions will be deleted.

Piece Of Paradise
25th July 2004, 11:27
Maybe we can set up one in the forum index for all the new people in the various forums. We can write in various languages so that they will know what it is.

Riccardo
25th July 2004, 11:33
yeah maybe that would be cool.

Piece Of Paradise
25th July 2004, 11:36
And it also saves space too as there would be only one topic instead of many topics for the various language forums.

Angelvs
31st July 2004, 05:09
I really don't think we need to get so strict... what is really the problem of everybody new having their own topic? most of us had it... is kind a cool...

and believe me... we don't need to get MFI style... do we? some restrictions... yeah.... but not too much...

The idea about the video request seems good... one topic for all languages.... in the Alizée stuff SubForum...

instead of having a new forum for introductions why not just make a sticky at the top of the general forum, it would take less effort! 8)

DavidAlizée

I think we could also need a topic for new users to introduce themselves.

why not just make a sticky at the top of the general forum

yep, i agree to either

Napoleon

I didnt make my own thread - i just said it soemwhere...lol

and these boards are overall relaxed...good feel to them

Wespe
10th August 2004, 13:03
Indeed, it's better for setting a sticky thread for newcomers' introduction, or else it seems that rather rambling of seeing many separate threads emerged, to centralize the contents would be necessary for recognition of each other. IMO

Manu
12th August 2004, 01:46
Yeah but if you are new, then you won't know if there is a specific thread to say hello or not. At least when I was new, I wasn't familiarized enough with this forum. I just say hi wherever and I only found out where I had created that thread later.

Ayan
12th August 2004, 01:50
Still, mods could move all those "hi-posts" to one thread eventually.

Piece Of Paradise

loveherfromusa
22nd August 2004, 01:07
I enjoy the "Hi, I'm new here" posts. Putting them all in one place would help. I also get tired of the "lol" and "I agree" posts that don't say anything else. "I agree" might be OK if it is an answer to a question.

I don't understand the character limit.

Could there be a limit to the number and size of graphics/pictures in the signature? When someone has 6 pictures in their signature, and they have multiple posts in a topic, it becomes too much.

(Also, I will stop my useless postings. Sometimes I just get carried away. :D )

AlizéeInMYHeart

^well, there is a limit on the sig......max 200 characters

Piece Of Paradise

Lía

yeah...

i reckon that a new members forum would be cool - coz then u'd have all the "i'm new" posts in a different area - i have that on my forum and it is fun!

also i reckon that the pics should have a maximum pixels... i.e. 200x200... or be thumbnailed....

Ayan
22nd August 2004, 16:30
Hey, what?! No no no.
200x200 is wayyy too small.
Thisway we would get rid of all those big Lili-pic-siggies. Do we really want that? :(

Lía
22nd August 2004, 16:45
well big pics (like 600x600 pixels) are wayyyyyyyy too big.... it takes up the whole page....

At one time we had a choice to exclude graphics in signatures when we read posts. I don't see that option anymore. I sympathize with the 56K people. It costs $$ to get DSL or cable. If we could have the option to exclude graphics, it would make it easier on them.

This forum needs a shoutbox.
Y'know this little area, similar to quickmessage. But its not a quickmessage. Its better. On some aspects.
First of all, you are not spamming the threads anymore, coz the shoutbox is usually placed in the upper area of the page and is not under any category
nor thread.
Then of course it is a good replacement for people, who just want to say something random.
Like 'what are you doing' for example. Shoutbox usually adds a timestamp too.
Thisway, people who are interested in reading other people's random thoughts and posts (im once again referring to the what are you doing thread) can do it, without troubeling themselves with irrelevance.
It would also be something similar to half-chatroom.
Now of course it would have to be modded, coz there is no need to keep it up just for people to write certain rediculous comments and such. However it would be helpful in many aspects.
Like what? Less spam; less meaningless posts; more serious discussions (yes, i am not kidding); smaller postcounts - belive it or not, its good; we would have a shoutbox; its cool. There are many more pro-s to back up the shoutbox, but since im a good person (I AM !!) im letting you guys discover the rest of the goodness that comes with a shoutbox.

In the past there must have been at least 20-30 threads, wich have tried to cut the spam. There was even a "topic for offtopic", however, such topics usually sink to the bottom of the page and then people are not noticing them. Sticky is not much of an option either coz they are also not being noticed, besides offtopic is not important enough to be stickied (there are exceptions of course, but thats another story) Shoutbox would also take away the reason to spam just coz of postcount, and so the spam will not be encouraged.

If you dont like it, then forget it. Thanks to those who bothered to read it through.

Well, I think maybe people should be given the rules and regulations right when they sign up to join this forum so that they will know what and what not to do. This way they can't argue when moderators discipline them.

The filter to stop spamming,
that you have to have a certain amount of characters in your message, in order to post something. Its lame and should be removed.
People in this forum are not going to "not post". They just add some irrelevant things to their post, in order to make it longer. But its still as pointless as the short message would be.
This filter is not helping anyone.
How many messages have i already seen, in wich people are complaining " damn, the message is too short, wtf is this. oh well, i guess i just add some random blah blah blah and press submit"

Bottom line is, its annoying.

DavidAlizée
2nd September 2004, 16:37
It is annoying yeah, but it does stop posts like " :P " and "lol" .. although people do post messages with usless text sometimes, i think that some people wont even think about lol, and :P . I dunno, imo it might be doing some good.. on the other hand.. usless text.

a.c. ajaccio

surely its just common sense not writing a message with three letters in it, perhaps some people should be given warnings if they do this alot and then temporary bans if they keep doing it. I know it seems a bit harsh but for some people this is the only way to deal with them. This type of thing is what the moderators are there for! :D

Backinblack
29th September 2004, 18:18
Marcustro, didn't you even listen to Mayhem when he told you not to bump old topics? Yeah, they're interesting to look at, but if newer members really want to look at them, it doesn't take much effort to just go back to previous pages on the General forum to find them.

Here's an idea. If you really want to bump old topics (i.e. create more spam), you can bump one topic per day. Anything else will be deleted.

As for the games threads, I'll look at them and see about condensing them. David is right, when we have meaningful topics in the General forum, they get quickly pushed down to the bottom by games threads and polls.

i have a suggestion:

how about having all the games in a seperate forum? That way you can play the games if you want to without interfering with the general forum!
Instead of just havin forum games in that forum, there should be a thread about sites where you can play alizée games, and also other 'game' sites / sites that includes games.... oh and if you hav found quizzes from other sites then that should be in there too as then if you want to take the quiz then fine and if you don't then that's also fine...
if u r gonna hav a games forum then i dunno if ure gonna put it as an extra forum in the eng catergory.....

hope u get me / understand me... i had a heavy drinking session last nite....

DavidAlizée
30th September 2004, 12:09
But why? I think this forum should be dedicated to Alizée not games :*( .. there are lots more forums that have games, hundreds.

Lía

i know... but look on This Message Board (http://www.refuse-to-regret.com/board) (soz it's adam levine related but it's an example...) and as well as having an adam board and M5 board they also hav a games board so that you don't feel like you have to post to every message, only the ones you want to post....

i like the idea of a games forum... and it could work....!

DavidAlizée
30th September 2004, 12:17
well. if it was up to me, id say no games here at all imo. That will keep the spam right down, and limit all the post numbers. The games arnt good here, just goood for high post counts, no-body reads the comments anyways.. I don't think we need games here, i come here for latest news of Alizée and stuff.. heh not for games.

well there are already loads of news on alizée which is respectable as it's an alizée forum... plus this is the most decent english alizee forum... but wouldn't the board be boring without "fun"? i hardly ever post on "this or that" or "the person above me" as that is getting on my nerves coz the same things are repeated again and again... with my games (the band name game / song title name) i get people to give the name of the song / artist PLUS give a comment on it... and that way it can get people to either go away and listen to the song or look up on that artist..... so that way you are playing the game as well as giving your opinions....

DavidAlizée

But no-body reads the comments. The BANDname game and SONG title game could be joined into one i think.

This is my suggestion:

JOIN: Band name game and Song title game togeather = MUSIC GAME
JOIN: This or That and Tell the truth game togeather = The truth game
JOIN: Person above me and post what your doing and whats for dinner = whats new? ( not sure)

anyway... something like this if we MUST do games.. ?

Lia was right......I think a fun/games section would be perfect.......just a nice fun section to pass time and not take things too seriously....and out of the way of people who don't like fun and games I guess....heh heh... ...

I dunno i kinda like it as it is apart from the fact that engaging and meaningful topics in the general section do dissappear from veiw rather quickly as a result, i'll go with what the general consensus is at the end of the day

The fact is, something has to be done to cut down the spam. Or how some of you like to call it, " Fun"
I've also seen sepperate sections in some other forums, only dedicated to the forum games. A special section, where you cannot get postcount. You post but those posts are so irrelevant, that they wont even raise the postcount. Do i care about the postcount ? Not really. But some people do, and thatswhy they are posting in all those meaningless gamethreads.
So how about you let them post, but wont give postcount.
This way, they can have the fun, but are not entirely ruining the basic idea of postcount system.

Now of course, this would only work, if there "would" be an extra section for games.
Personally i think the forum doesnt need such thing and that the gamethreads would be deleted and disallowed.
1 gametopic per forum is more than enough enough.

Lía

i totally disagree... we need fun on here otherwise people would think that we live in the 15th century and we clearly don't.... i like games, they are totally fun... but if u don't like them then well... u don't like them, ok?

WRONG WRONG WRONG! (Sorry for that, I know that's rude, but someone made me do it. :? )

There's no need to add games. Some great topic-maker had already done some good job.
There's some related topic like:

"What's are you doing now?"
"What's up in your country?"
"What's up for you now"?
,etc......

I suggest the moderator or admin should made the normal topic reached 400 posts into "sticky post"... or the post have high popularity and the post that people like most or like my topic and other people's topic "What's up xxxxxxx"?.

Just my opinion anyway, thank you for listening. *Bow

Personally, I think there are a few useless threads, but people keep posting on them and, spam or not, they like it and think it's fun, so I don't have any problem with them, it's fine with me. If the administrators think it would be better for the forum not to have them, because of technical reasons or whatever, I don't have any problem either. But dunno, for example the thread "what's for dinner" and the like... I just think that's not interesting at all and doesn't contribute to anything productive, only taking space. That's at least my opinion heh.

There was a decrease, because all spam-posts were removed.

I think the most counts should just be left as they are, they don't realy mean anything. Also.. it would be nice to have an option to select a forum color theme. I was checking out the PHP forum, and i fell in love with the subBLACK style. The same style used at www.france-vidcaps.com ...

DavidAlizée

Ive also said this too, but a few people said pink wouldnt be good. I think it can be good. But ever since i seen the subBLACK i love it. Not that there is anything wrong with this theme atm ofc. Maybe a change in the future would be nice, or an option in the profile to change. If the change was going to take place, it would be best if it is the only choice.. so text colours don't get mixed up, Just an idea anyway..

Lía
3rd October 2004, 15:46
yeah... u can change the theme in ur profile, it'll just depend whether it'll work out and also if ricc has time to upload the files....

i like the 'igloo' theme.... it's really nice!!! :cheesy:

THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH SPAM... But i want to say something about the Signatures...

Yesterday I got told that my signature was waaaaay too big coz i had 3 little pictures...    AND it wasn't over the 200-character limit...

On this other forum that I go on (NadineCoyle.Net), their rule states that:
SIGNATURE POLICY
As with avatars they slow loading times and cause the forum to stretch. Therefore, we ask that members use a reasonable size signature at all times. Images are welcomed and but please ensure that:
1. Use of ONE image (or possibly 2 small ones)
2. Have a width no greater than 600 pixels (500 prefered)
so that ppl know what to put in their sigs and their limitations...

On this forum, I have never heard ANYTHING on Signatures / Avatar rules... so if you could explain them in a rules type thing, then that'd be great!

oh and if u want some rules, then here r mine....

SIGNATURE RULES
This makes u "Unique"! So please make sure that if u wanna keep to your uniqueness when posting IMAGES, then follow these simple guidelines:
1. make sure that you have a maximum of [3] Images (u can change it to 2 if u want)
2. Make sure that they are SMALL - Recommended size is 545*120 pixels

AVATAR RULES
U don't necessarily have to have an Alizée avatar from the preset gallery! You can choose a picture from the Alizée-Gallery or have an entirely different one! Just make sure that:
1. The width is no longer than 250 pixels
2. You put the URL of the IMAGE in the "Link to off-site Avatar" in ur Avatar profile section - This includes pics from Alizée-Gallery as well!
3. Again, no vulgar or prohibited avatars!

hope at least someone agrees with me that we need a sig / avatar policy.....

Ayan
2nd November 2004, 20:02
You can turn the signatures off from your profile. So there you go - an option for all modem users.

Lía
2nd November 2004, 20:06
yes i know....

but for all the people who don't mind having the signatures, then there should be a policy in place so that we know what we can have and image limitations....

DavidAlizée
2nd November 2004, 20:36
well, its just commen sense realy, i can see his point you kinda did have like 3 or something banners in ur sig.

Yesterday I got told that my signature was waaaaay too big coz i had 3 little pictures... AND it wasn't over the 200-character limit...

Im sure that only counts for actual words, and not pictures. No reason for sigs to be big though..

Lía
2nd November 2004, 20:47
it counts for images AND text together, as they BOTH count for characters... sorry....

and anyway sean's gonna try and sort it out / consult a senior member...

Moco
3rd November 2004, 03:33
I don't think we'll enforce a concrete signature/avatar size limit. If we feel someone's sig or avatar is too big, we'll just tell them to make it smaller. But I think most people here have enough common sense to make their sigs and avatars a reasonable size.

AKMS
3rd November 2004, 03:57
reasonable - very "rubber" notion. I know many forums where avatar size more 300 Kb - too large.. but here I have not problems with size. )) just smths many pics slow down modem.

I also do not see much of a problem with this forum in the first place. I can easily point you in the direction of tons of other forums that you would not be able to stand for more than about a minuete, I do not go to these often at all. The maturity displayed at this forum I am proud of.

Now of course there are other forums like technical support or career specific where this is never an issue in the first place. Talking about entertainment, the forums on the Official Star Wars site get my vote for also being very tasteful, though I think they are heavily monitered and that is why. Other forums I have been to, such as music, audioscrobbler, ddr, anime, and varous other have displayed massive immaturity. A lot of the members seem to have a simple, and pointless "F*** you" in bold blue letters or something, as their signature. I think most of these forums average in age of like 15 years old.

This forum is older, may have something to do with it...

Ayan

I have always thought the attitude of this forum is different, because the people who usually post here have rather different interests than in other forums. In here, Alizée is in focus. And She is being respected so much. (Of course there are exceptions, but I'd rather not speak about "them" more atm.) I have noticed, that usually in other forums, all subjects are different. Like you mentioned Jango. People are talking about more geeky stuff. Random stuff. It is all irrelevant. But in here, there are feelings involved. People are very passionate. And I'm not talking about "passion-towards-a-new-geforce-halflife2-combo", I'm talking about the real, ultimate passion towards the world's most wonderful girl. She unites people who feel the same for Her. I think its fantastic. And basically in my humble opinion, this place is one of the very few decent places left in the internet. A place, where you can come and read about the best singer ever. To speak about Her with other fellow fans. People who generally post here are different than in other forums. I'm not trying to put other forums down or anything, but as it seems the users in AF actually want to establish real life connections aswell. They travel a lot. They travel to meet Alizée. They travel to meet eachother. And for them this forum has been one of the very first meeting places with eachother and also one of the first places to get to know more about Alizée.

Phew! What a great halfly-offtopic post. I'm so proud of myself...

I'm not sure if other forums are more "geeky". But the sad thing is, some other forums have just as much focus on the specifics as this one does, and all the people have the same interests to. They are fighting for the hell of it believe me, they have all said it. I see thread topics with such exciting titles as "Oh man, post here who is going to be flamed next". Who's turn it is to get flamed becomes a game, and a very important one. I hate that word "flame" it shouldn't even HAVE to be used. Certainly not here!

white is not a good color for forums at all in general. The reason for these soft tones is something that was invented a few years ago based on some research.

Stare at a white screen for a while, like a word document, your eyes will hurt. White light coming from a pc moniter has the amazing ability to make your retnas sore. Using a soft tone like this is a way of muting it, without taking away that "white" effect. So in other words, what a lot of these forums suggest in their color scheme palets nowadays, is a more "educated" color choice.

And it is nice on your poor eyes!

I think the word count is a really good idea. It's a another simple way for the forum to keep track of something that can tell you a little bit about someone's style or posting personality, such as; wether or not the user makes long posts or not.

Before, we had total post count and number of posts per day, to scrutinize member activity. Now we just have more additional tools available!

Mr Bond
6th April 2005, 20:50
Seems a good idea. Good for discouraging one word posts. I average 62 words per post.

tern
7th April 2005, 03:42
I think those numbers are pretty inaccurate because they probably reflect quoted phrases too. But anyway it's a cool feature to see.

Backinblack
7th April 2005, 04:07
No, the script is written so that quoted phrases aren't counted in the total words. Also, it counts words in Café Corse but only divides it by posts that are incremented (all the other forums besides Café Corse), meaning that the average words per post is much greater than it should be for those who post a lot in that forum.

Zeka

Here is a thought. How about, making a section in the gallery or even fanpage to upload avatars and sigs to the new Dimentions. The reason i say this, is because most of the .gifs in the gallery do not work with the new avatar rules. Also, it would be nice to have a dedicated section, so new users can select a signiture or an animated avatar for there profile to use on the forum. Those that are not good with photoshop, can have a cool Alizée sig and avatar.

Ofc, all sigs and avatars set to the new rules...

Anyway, just an idea.

1.Moco told you to quit arguing with Bondius.
2.You always want to have it right,so just try to relax
3.Don't think you can rule this forum, only Moderators and Admins can.
4.Whatever you do,you can't kick me off the forum.

1. I did not argue with anyone. I pointed out, Ramon is not the only one making usless posts.

No, I can't stop, David, because all you do is insult me and PayBays. I think that's more like an attitude problem. You're 10 years older than me? So what, you seem 10 years younger by the posts. Please, if you have a problem with us then stop making stupid replys to our ideeas. How the hell can we get along with the others and not with you?

Ned

Ppl, stop this! It's obviously that older users have the advantage, so this arguement is useless now and ever!

Ned
6th July 2005, 19:56
I don't like this at all! Can we all just get along! People make mistakes! And btw, sorry Paybays, I guess I don't see this!
And David, you're a really nice guy, why do you hate us, foreigners, all? We don't hate you! And btw, yes Bondius has some a bit odd posts, but he means no harm to the forum, that's just him, though I find him funny, neither does Paybays! Why do you have to pick on them, c'mon man! Let's just try to give an example to all of them.

Well said, but lets stop this here because if Moco's already spoken with David, then it's being dealt with. He should cool it, as should everyone else with the extremely excessive posting. But we've talked about this before, so you all know that. Lets not drag it out here. Thanks. Oh, and don't worry about Ramon. :-)

DavidAlizée
6th July 2005, 20:24
for the record, moco didnt speak to me. He just asked bonuis and myself to stop it.

Ned, i dunno where you got this idea from "why do you hate us, foreigners, "

"us" foreigners? I don't hate anyone. I dislike two users. I don't "hate" foreigners.

I didn't finger point anyone, I just wanted to know why and what is goin' on! If you think I don't diserve somone to tell me what is happening, it's ok, I won't ask again. I figured he got that warning, 'cause of the posts he did, that's why!

DavidAlizée
17th July 2005, 19:41
I wasn't talking about you, i was talking about the other post, and a few more posts, on the other page. Ramon has been around here for a very long time, he joined the very old IRC chat, 8+ months before this new chat was set up, way long before he joined this forum. He has been here longer than most of the active posters, before may 2004.. ( in the irc ) He has always made posts, his English is not great at typing, so he uses a few words to say how he feels. If he was breaking the rules, it would say "message too short" or he would put ( message to short ) as some users do.

Granted he uses alot of smiley faces in his posts, thats probably why he has a warning. He is a good guy, and doesn't deserve to be publicly humiliated in threads constantly about his small posts. I don't see admins doing it, it is all done private. I know they read all posts and if they thought something was breaking the rules, they would speak to him privately. He doesn't deserve this public finger pointing. God, its like at school .. kids running to the teacher " oh, sir.. Ramon did this, Ramon did that )

knock it off

Ned
17th July 2005, 19:47
Ok, I must tell you, I'm sorry if I made you or Ramon, or the others who saw this, unconfortable, I appologyse. It won't happen again, I promise. I just wanted to know what's going on, that's all. And btw, I know how it feels not to know english very well, and still using the internet, where the english language is very often used, I have a friend in almost the same position as Ramon.

Ned,everyone is breaking the rules.I see some people, who are like over 3500 posts still posting 1 or 2 emoticons.I really don't know why people can make this probelm such big.You just have to act like the rules.Obey the rules or get kicked...easy!

I'm just glad you guys were not around when we did not have the cors café. Everyone spammed!

When the café was set up, about the time Marcustro was banished into the depths of hell. Everyone got posts deleted.. Some users were over 14,000 posts, now only have 4,000.

Myself, i had 5354, now i only have 3742. The posts were not actually spam, but if you look at the café now, games like "This and that" and "post what your doing" stuff.. all those kinda posts were deleted ( post count ) not atcualy posts. Although some topics were purged, others were not. Anyway, i would hate to see you guys kick up a fuss then, because people could easily manage to get 200 posts per day. Just because users have high post counts now, doesnt mean they spam, as all posts were cleaned, and post count deleted.

PayBays
17th July 2005, 20:33
