View Full Version : Alizée an Inspiration to Learn French?
Joseph

Have any of you studied/taken classes of French on behalf of Alizée, to better understand, or pronounce her glorious music? I'm going to next year hopefully, and I'm getting some "Learn French Easy" type books from the used book store near my house. ^^)
Just imagine not mocking but actually singing along with her with flawless pronunciation!
And although I am kind embaressed to say so, I've always said, "Al-i-zee"
What is the correct way to say her name in her native language?

I've already been taking french for 3 years
Alizée was the first time i actually used french for something i truly enjoyed
it is just more of an inspiration to continue learning the language for me
and i believe it's pronounced Aliz-ay almost.... i can't really spell it out for ya
but the é makes the "e" sound go higher at the end instead of lower or flat
hmm... but i've heard it pronounced.... *checks more vids*
yeah, it's aliz-ey or aliz-eh don't know really how to write it down

Heh, I have been on and of studying languages for years. Did an intro the German once, and that was the last official language thing I did (god, that was 8 years ago!)
I recently picked up French again (let's say... a year ago), and studying on my own using a plethora of resources, including froncophone friends (invaluable for practicing). I'm in a tech school right now, though, and working 2 jobs, simply for the purpose of getting into a university (I took the German course back at a small college when I was doing some credit work).
It certianly comes easier when you immerse yourself in it, and being a fan of Alizée certainly helps :) I still make plenty of goofs, though, and you always will while learning. I am by no means advanced, either, but I can read and follow well enough now. Kind of late for me to get into, I think, my frist girlfriend was French, it might have helped me back then
Isn't this a bit Off-Topic, too? :)

Ahemm... I started to study french because of Alizée. She is the biggest motivation ever. I took a french-course for newbies in some school. Now im keeping myself busy with some self-study french programs, and hopefully i can continue my language studies in school in autumn.
So i wish you all the best in your french studies. Its easy, as long as you have the neccessary motivation.
I've been getting french in school for about 8 years. But I never payed much attention, Since I've know Alizée I bought a program to help me study French, and French is now my favourite subject in school!
And I've downloaded Pimsleur Lessons, I heard they help alot
And I think you pronounce it: Alizé, just listen to all the interviews, doubt it's something like Alizay.
Anyway, go for it and study it as hard as you can, French is the language of the Angels ;x

ill try to explaine how to pronounce Alizee. Ill try to do in my language :)
ok in Lithaunian language one letter means one sound. for explaine word "like", there is four letters(four sounds). in my language letter "L" is same like in english, "i" pronounce like "i" in this word "sit", "k" - same, and "e" - like "let", and then u say all these four sound u have word :) Why did i speak about pronouncion in my language? ok, the same way are pronouncing Alizee. "A" (wAtch), "L" (same), "I" (sIt), "z" (same), "ée" is like one stressed "e" (Let). Ali-ze u should accent secound part of word.
p.s. my english sux, so maybe u dont understand my explaine :cheesy:

I just started about a month ago. Alizee makes me want to learn it. I'm teaching myself for now. "French For Dummies" is a good book because it provide the pronunciation underneath the French word.
Is the way to pronunce Alizée is Ah-lee-zay?
My language makes me pronunce it A-lee-zee-ye

First off, this topic was moved to the Opinions/Questions section.
Second, "Alizée", like all French words, is pronounced with equal stress on all syllables. This is sometimes difficult for English speakers who are used to stressing parts of words. If I'm talking about her in English I tend to stress the first syllable, but in pure French they're all equal. Pronouncing her name using English phonetics: "A" = a as in father, "li" = lee, with the French pronunciation of the letter 'l' (tip of the tongue behind the front two teeth), and "zée" as in zay (the accent on an é like that always gives it a long 'a' sound).
Third, while I started studying French long before I knew about her, she has certainly helped me over the past year or so. She's probably the one who gave me the extra incentive to push for a master's degree in French. 8)

You're damn right she's an inspiration. Before I knew about Alizée, I was really ignorant about anything French, especially the language. But since then, I've taken two semesters of French at school and before that I started teaching myself with books and websites.
I studied Spanish in high school for 4 years, so that helped me a bit in learning French. But in all those 4 years, I don't think I was ever as good at speaking or understanding Spanish as I am with French. So, yes, having an inspiration makes learning something much easier and a lot more fun.

"zée" as in zay (the accent on an é like that always gives it a long 'a' sound).
ha! I win!!
another way to think of the é is like the "ey" in "hey" which is the same as the ay in hay[/list]

Alizée is an inspiration, period. She inspires me to learn French, ofcourse. I have 3 of the best recognized programs for learning French w/video conversation too. I will finally start in July. Heck I even bought the original director's cut of "Le Grande Bleu" just because it was her favourite movie. Most of all, she inspires me to be a nice guy  8)

it can, but it seriously depends on the course/teacher
and of course, being dropped into the middle of france would also help as well, but it's nice to have a teacher explain the system of conjugations and such

yeah i listened a lot and understand that is not "e", but next letter in Lithuanian alphabet "e" with point under it :)
btw im better in English when i LT, cos i get mark 8-10 from English dictation , and only 4-6 from Lithuanian dictation :D lol, LT grammer sux, and its almost to all Lithuanians :) I read English text faster then LT, because there is only few words compared to LT and there are many word prefix, particle, word endings and so on (for explaine word "begti"(run), apibegti(run around sthg), pabegti(run away(expl. from jail)), nubegti(run some distance), uzbegti(run under), nubegti(run down), ibegti(run into), isbegti(run out), and much others... that was only word prefix so u can imagine how hard is LT) :D Speaking is easy, but i have never seen foreigner who speaks LT correctly (not accent, but saying sentence correctly) :)
I'm only fluent in one language besides English and am working on a second one (neither are French).
I think if I learned French, I'd actually appreciate her music less. If I could understand her lyrics then I'd get caught up in the meaning of the song and it would distract me from her voice. That's the reason why I don't listen to many songs in English.

ooo... i get what your saying.... *reconsiders*
But I have to tell you, when I loaded up Xalakads mix today, I knew that it was, "Its not my fault" "its not my fault im a lolita"
I know the whole ordeal with lolita so lets not get into that ^^)
What's Xalakad? And what does the rest of the post after that mean?
Sorry, it's late here. (Yes I know it's later in Texas, but it is still late here too) :cheesy:

awesome! So your saying it's easier than German? I've been in German for 3 years, and it isn't getting any easier :/

i can say, french is harder then english, easier then russian. in french is harder to understand words from speech then in german, but about grammer i cant say cos i dont learn german

25th June 2004, 13:41
French is harder because they have this 'liaison' - a phenomenon that when listening to French conversation, it sounded like a great big long word. The last consonant of a word is linked with the vowel which begins the following word.
Ayan
25th June 2004, 17:28
I think it makes the whole language a lot more beautiful. Besides, its not so hard to pronounce it.
Like this one time in HitMachine, when this guy kinda misread the MCE title at first, but succeeded to make it look right via this 'liaison' thingie...

meh, try listening to street talk and slang all slapped into one....
but many languages are hard to decipher when actually put into real use, like conversation with someone who is totally fluent and has been speaking the language since s/he was born
it tends to take a while to get to that level... lol

dont be so sure :) i can speak english pretty well(i have trouble with articles  ), although my language is very different form English, there is different sentence modulation. the best way to understand language is listen to that language songs, like i did all my life (now time comes for french) , because there is only shity pop in LT, pffff i hate it
