View Full Version : A question about male American fans versus male Euro fans

Do a lot of European males like Alizee?

Like, as an American, I myself (and a lot of other males) hate the talentless singers like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, but I cant imagine that they represent anything different from what Alizee is in Europe. Maybe I can enjoy her music cuz its in a foreign language that I dont understand anyways.

Do any non English speaking males like Britney in Europe for the same reasons? Im just trying to figure out what type of fans Alizee has. Personally Im a huge rock fan of bands like KoRn, Nine Inch Nails, Linkin Park, etc etc. So its a big stretch to my friends that I actually like Alizee music at all.

Well, I can tell you about Spain, and I don't think anybody hates Britney or Xtina here, but these are the typical examples of only comercial pop culture, which is very common nowadays, at least in my country. There has been a time when most of the music here was that, and it really sucked, just now we have better music. And I don't think many people knows Alizée in Spain, although we are neighbours with France, its music is absolutely unknown here, and Alizée is French music so you can figure out. I don't know if I answered your question, but that's it for here.
And don't worry about you being a rock fan and liking Alizée. I'm a Queen () fan and love her music, so it isn't uncompatible :P
And btw, if the Alizée fan community keeps growing in the states, she will have to start to think in your country as a future possibility ;)

For me it is difficult to understand English, but nevertheless it is much easier than French... But it is such fine language.. Especially when Alizee sing.. Sometime I shall study french necessarily!

Same here...I am a fan of Queen, classic rock, 70s music, and most 80s music...But Alizee is completely different to me...Nothing like any of them yet even better...I just can't get enough of her...

IMO...Alizee is 50 times better at singing in English than Speaks and Aguleira combined...And when she sings in French, she is 100 times better....If not more...

well i understand easy french but well i got advantage i got spanish as natal language and english as second so it's kinda easy for me to understand french and about the music well since my country it's like full of that type of music but most of it is in spanish, well it's not strange my country it's starting to make alizee another of it's pop idols, every day that pass another fan appears and that's good since it's good for our american cause but it's bad this isnt happening in the hole continent, only in 4 or 5 countries :(

If you want to learn french somday, it is a really good idea to some how submerge yourself in that languages culture, the more you are around the language, being from tv or music or movies ect ect, it will slowly help you understand how words are pronounced and how the language flows...then all you need is the direction, if your out of school now...try looking at a community college...thats a good place to start...

BTW...I as an american cannot STAND american pop...let alone thoes no tallent "POP DIVAS" they call themselves....i too am into more harder rock but i listen to such a variety of music i cant say i like just one...but I honestly dont know where i would be with out Alizees music....its brought so much more GOOD into my life that anything i have listend, read or done in a long long long time....thats my 2 cents.

She isn't famous where I live at all, there's nobody in my school that really knows her.
I think the main reason for that is because nobody likes the French language in this part of Belgium.

I on the other hand only listen to Alizée and Metallica, that's a pretty big difference too.

About Britney&Christina: I don't know, they never had anything special enough for me. Although you see them on TV every day here, they just don't have "it".

In my country Alizée is well known I think, I must say that I listening pop music not rock, metal, and other kind but in every kind of music is somethink good.
In my school and my region Alizée isn't very famous but I know that She has got a lot of fans in my country. The pop star like B.S and Ch.A can't even compare with Alizée, She is something more that a singer only, for me She is the best thing that I have met in my whole life. I don't know how my life goes on if I ever known her.
SHE IS THE BEST!!!

Oh, I forget Hi everyone ( and sorry for my english aftre all I'm Polish Man ):]

Again one of these seemingly never-ending comparisons between Alizée and Britney/Christina. *sigh*

People should realize, that there are more popartists in the world. ( Yes, there are also more than 2 popartists in USA too )
These 3 names mentioned, are not even from the same category. It's like comparing strawberry to battery liquid.
Oh, and just because Britney and Christina are probably the most well-known "popartists" in USA, doesnt mean that they are the best, right?
but I cant imagine that they represent anything different from what Alizee is in EuropeOh-kay, so what is it that you think Alizée has in common with Britney and Christina? Before you answer, please read those hundred pages concerning the same subject and make up your mind. Thank you.

Personally Im a huge rock fan ...//...So its a big stretch to my friends that I actually like Alizee music at all. Oh hey, same here. Fortunately She has tought me, that there are talented singers in pop-music too. Maybe you are also lucky enough to find that out.

Although im a bit sceptic about that, coz as i saw from the bandnames you mentioned, that you are mostly into commercial. I guess its more or less okay though...wouldnt hurt to get a taste from other cultures ( refering to France right now ) :P

Maybe I can enjoy her music cuz its in a foreign language that I dont understand anyways.Yeah who knows, only time can tell, right? I hope you can make up your mind soon .

If only Alizee could be on tv every day.

Judging by the official fanlisting, Alizee has one of the most faithfull male audiences in Poland, even though she hasn't given a single concert here. She has a very pleasant voice but I think most guys become her real fans when they see her perform, and then they become her hardcore fans when they see some of her interviews.

You suggest people may like her because they don't understand her lyrics which they wouldn't like if they did. I understand French a little and I read the lyrics. I can't say I like all of them: the play with double senses is sometimes too obvious and verges on vulgarity; some others are pretty silly. But then again, you won't find many intelligent lyrics anywhere. Anyway, it wasn't she who wrote them.

There are three basic components of her appeal: look, personal character and her performances. As to the look, Spears and Aguilera leave me totally cold. Alizee is a well shaped girl but it's her face that really knocked me down. She has one of the most wonderful smiles I have ever seen, and her facial expressions give you an insight into her character, which you can't help liking. That insight is usually confirmed by what she says in her interviews. She appears to be fresh, natural, spontaneous, energetic and fun. But she is also charmingly timid and has that wonderful innocence and softness about her. She seems so sensitive and vulnerable that you instantly yearn to protect her. Then she is also loving, generous, charitable, grateful and truthful. Really, all this is enough to make you overlook any imperfections she might have.

In short, I think the main difference is that Alizee is LOVABLE, while the two girls you mention just might be considered pretty, at best. As to the music, I'm not much into this genre either and I certainly wouldn't listen to it if it was anybody else.

Hmm, is it only me, or did my last post sound extremly harsh.
Especially after reading Greg's deep post.

Anyway, sorry about it. I think i need to start using more smileys.

Alizée means everything to me as you know, and everything about her is why i feel what i do for her. But Britney and Christina..pfff over here in england they are Cartoon characters really, nobody takes them serious and they are just objects here, with stories all over the papers and stuff

Many dislike them, including me and their music isn't really that respected over here...Alizée is so much different, i'm not even gonna compare them..Alizée's music touches me like no other, and i like many styles of music, Soul, Rock and swing but Alizée's music means so much more to me

The only thing i can say is everything about Alizée i adore and that's why i feel like i do, because she is Alizée, that's the only way i can kinda say it

Ayan we all know there are more than 2 singers in america, but you see TO everyone that I attempt to introduce Alizee to, they always end up compairing the 3 at some point, where Alizee is genuine and seems very kind hearted, the american singers are for the better part BIG Spoiled, stuck up, bitches. IF you hear their music every day all day it gets quite annoying, not to mention that extreme case of closed mindedness that americans suffer from on a daily baisis, I guarentee if Alizee had an decent chance to introduce her self and music to america, she would take off, but alas who would giver her the chance??

Point well taken. I really can't say much about those girls for they never cut any ice with me, but my casual observations are very similar.

I wonder who the hell buys Britney's and Xtina's cd's, since it seems like everybody dislikes them and their music, and since they are two of the most successful singers nowadays, so you know what I mean

*cough*commercials*cough*

When a product is being shoved up your face all the time. Daily. Then sooner or later an average person WILL buy it, no matter if they really want it or not.

Umm...yeah thats about it.

pff weak minded people though, i mean of course some people actually like their music, but so many buy for reasons i can think of, but really just can't fathom

I never listened to POP (Britney, Xtina, etc), i just don't like it. I myself listen punk music: russian punk, sum 41, blink 182, the offspring, rancid etc. But when i first have heard Alizee (Moi... Lolita), i felt that i like it. Then i saw her concert in Amsterdam and i understand that i have to listen more her music. I myself study in MSU and live in hospice. We have a big LAN network there. I searched in it for Alizee and i found that nearly evryone has her music and clips. I never thougt about Alizee music as about POP. It was for me something special. So, now i listen to all i said at the beginning plus Alizee.

I am with Shakezula, I dig heavier rock as well 8) .

I only let my closest friends know who Alizee by letting them listen to her music. I guess I am afraid the others won't see the appeal and they'll think I am wierd for listening to French pop music (or ANY pop music for that matter). Or maybe its because I know most of my friends are prejudice toward the French and they would never give anything French a chance  . Too bad, they don't know what they are missing.

You guys hear the names 'Brittney' and 'Christina' and you all of the sudden go off track by comparing them to Alizee. Thats not what I was asking.

I was asking if non Americans see Alizee as something of a talentless "pop princess" in/near her home, but somehow see Brittney and/or Christina as something more.

For example, as an American I see Brittney and Christina as nothing more than talentless girls who sell their "product" based on their looks alone. Alizee I almost say the same to, but I actually enjoy her music and her performances (as well as her looks). Do Europeans think of Alizee as being talentless?

I now see that the fans on these forums think about her in high regards based on more than just her music. But does the average European fan of music like her? Or do they think shes an "annoyance"?

I think that she is very gifted. I enjoy her music, but as any music i like, if i listen it too often it becomes annoying. So, sometimes i have to stop listening it or to rearrange my playlist with songs, that i have not heard yet or i heard rarely.
