hey guys, im new to this forum, i got a few questions.

This upcoming semester at college I will be DJing for the college radio station, and I would really like to use that opportunity to play some of Alizee's music over the air, and try to boost her populartity in the US.

I guess my question with that is would that break any copyright or other international regulations? I wouldnt have any financial gain outa it, but I would rather not get in trouble for somethin like that, i am after all a poor college student :p

Guess since this is my first post, ill share a little back ground. I first heard Alizee's song Moi-lolita about 2 years ago when i was in London ( Awesome city by the way). Was an interesting story, my friends and I were at a resteraunt, I believe the Planet Hollywood (hey we're American, gota have our burgers and fires). Well in the middle of our meal and conversation this song comes on that I havent heard before, and I ABSOLUTELY loved it! I turn to look and the singer is freaking beautiful to say the least. I was sold right then and there :)

So after I got back to the US I tried to share her music, but like its been said, it never really caught on. So thats why im looking forward to maby sendin her songs over the radio. I would probably play Moi-Lolita because its such a great song, although its a few years old...

but ya.. tell me what ya think, and I look forward to chatting with you guys more :)

The way I see it, what lawyer is going to go after a DJ at a college radio station? In my mind, spread the joy! Maybe start worrying if you become a national sensation playing her music! :D lol...

Well, it's not legal when you ask money for listening to Alizée.

I think playing Moi Lolita would be the best choice, since it's no secret that it's Alizée's best song, and also her biggest hit.

Alizée without Moi Lolita is like Neverland without Peter Pan, Captain Hook without a hook, Batman without costume, or Jurassic Park withoud Dinosaurs.

Actually, I really don't agree! To me her best songs are A contre courant and Coer deja pris, from her second album. Mio.. Lolita is just fine, and it's a dance track, wich lays in it's favour, but if you really like Alizée's voice, there's really no match for Coer deja pris, IMHO.

The most radio-friendly song would either be "J'ai pas vingt ans !" or "Moi ... Lolita." I would probably pick "J'ai pas vingt ans" since I've heard "Moi ... Lolita" exactly 3987334839853 times in the last two years. "A contre-courant" is an excellent song, but not exactly catchy enough to represent her music.

However, Alizée currently has no future on American radio. She doesn't really need the American market anyway, and her international presence seems to be strong enough. The best way to boost her popularity would be to air one of her music videos on MTV, but I still don't see that as something highly desirable.

And generally, if you have to ask, it's probably not legal.

There really is no market for foreign-language music in mainstream America. We're too padded with music in our language. Even immensly-popular latin singers don't fare terribly well with their Spanish songs...As for French-language music, I suspect its niche in America is smaller than new-age music.

God knows I've never personally met anyone who doesn't laugh at the French-language music thing.

I understand what you meant, but I cringed when you said 'new-age music.' Is there any way we could possibly find out how many fans she has in the US?

It's terrible to admit, but I think you are right about foreign-language songs. There is a market here for Spanish-speaking singers. They can sing in Spanish and have limited exposure or sing in English and possibly make it big.

I love the sound of French songs, and love the way Alizee sings, but I'm sure I am in the minority. It's difficult to realize that there are so many in this country that are missing out on a wonderful singer who also happens to be the most beautiful woman in the world.

you know after thinking about it, I think it comes down to Americans are more into the actual lyrics...

not that its bad, but when it comes to a song that is in a different language, its hard for them to listen cause they dont get the lyrics.

For me.. I have NO clue at all of what shes saying except in "Im fed up" :) I dont speak a word of French but I really dont care what shes actually singing about. The music has great melodies and a catchy tune, and her voice is perfect with it. What shes actually saying doenst matter as much to me...

hehe but it does become interesting when i wana try and sing along... let me tell you that doesnt work to good...

but then again.... I compose music as well as DJ, so maby im a little more critical about the actual music not the lyrics... oh well

As for not understanding the words, has anyone payed enough attention to the words of most songs that reach the tops? Are they really WORTH understanding?

Mylène´s words, on the other hand, have a world of meaning worth checking

wnd84 - Thank you for being another person who just loves to hear her sing.

I do understand a bit of French, but whether I do or not doesn't affect how much I enjoy listening to her. She and her voice are beautiful and are very pleasant to behold and to listen to.

I think that you should play Alizee's songs even if it is a regulation. I doubt is because some radio stations in my area did that too. (I requested it!)

Icecreamman - "her voice isn't the only perfect about her...everything about her is perfect"

I haven't seen anyone as beautiful and as enticing as she is. When I watch her videos, she captures my body and my mind. I'm sure she isn't perfect, but no one has shown me any proof that she isn't yet.
