Would you say that she is one of the ten most famous French artists currently making music?

How do you personally feel how famous she is in France on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being most famous?

I think she is very very famous in France, at least 8 (for the 1-10 scale)

I think she is famous in France too, maybe 8 or 9.

I'll be honest...

I think Alizée is very famous for being the Moi Lolita girl, and will always be remembered for that.

You asked is she famous, and to that the awnser is yes, but is she populair? I'd have to say not more then your averige French singer these days. J'en ai Marre did pretty good in the charts. She made it to nr: 4 in the charts with J'en ai marre at one point. So, that is good, but not remarkable.

Now J'ai pas vingt ans entered the charts 3 weeks ago, and came in on nr:18, a week later it was on 17, this week it's already going down and is now at 22.

I hate to say it, but the way the charts look now, put Alizée in a very averige position as a singer.

However Priscilla and Lori may now be higher in the charts, they will never be able to live up to the phenomena called Moi Lolita!

Being french I can tell you she's very famous .. At the present time, you can see her very often in newspapers, magazines or tv show .. She will make a great tour everywhere in France soon in stadiums with more than 5000 places .. Very few french artists can make a such big tour. So She's not the most famous singer in France but she's very famous .. I will say 8/10

And don't forget that she's only 18 ! ...

She is the most famous French singer I know.

The more famous she is, the better news it feels to me, because it may mean that she won't die out and that she will continue to make greater music.

Although, is it fair to say that she has gone 'downhill' since Moi Lollita? Or has things got better?

Nikodemus
27th June 2003, 15:10
I think she hasn't gone downhill her image has changed and it's not bad thing.

Micha

Ok...

Sorry, but Alizée these days is definately not as populair anymore as she was 2 years ago. Anyone who denies that is in denial of the actual facts.

Ok so she is on a few magezines every now and then, but that is quite simply promotion for her second album, because where were the magazines when there was no second album?

Alizée's career is not what it once was. I'm not saying her career is over, but i think the charts speak for themselves.

J'en ai marre only made it to nr:4 for one week, and then downhill after that. Now has anyone seen the charts of J'ai pas vingt ans? Week 1: nr:18, week 2: nr:17, week 3: nr:22.

I am a fan of Alizée and her music, but i can not act like i don't see what is happening. I see in the first place that Alizée's fame and popularity is cut in two peaces.

One peace is Lolita, the other one Alizée herself. Lolita is at least 50% of her populairity, and without it there is only Alizée. So it is highly possible, if not extreme likely, that Alizée doesn't have what it takes to remain succesfull when she outgrows her Lolita image.

So far i know only one celebrity who managed to remain populair after she outgrew her Lolita image. But she, Natalie Portman, succeded because she gave us something that replaced the Lolita image. The image of a woman who is in controle of what she wants from life, and says NO to media exploitation. A woman who goes trough college knowing it might have a negative impact on her career as an actress.

My fear is that without doing something like what Natalie did, what does Alizée become after Lolita? A girl who can't write her own music. A girl who can't sing live. A girl who has a career completely thanks to Mylene Farmer and Laurent Boutonnat.

Will Alizée be wise?, or will she be comercial like so many others? Alizée could have a nice but quiet career for her fans, but as long as she triest to be big, she's slowly going down.

And the thought that if Alizée was not on that show in 1999 we would be looking at a different girl singing the exact same song, Moi Lolita, kinda makes me wonder how much of what we see is really Alizée. We would never have known anything about Alizée Jacotey if Mylene Farmer had not seen that one little show.

C.P.A Will probably say that i am making trouble again, but i can't help it. I can only be honest.

It doesn't bother me if Alizée continues her career with Mylène Farmer .. Simply because I'm a great fan of Mylène too! :P ..I don't know if you speak french but in the "Fun tv" interview Alizée says that she wishes to make her whole career with Mylène ... I don't see any problem here .. And there are plenty artists who don't write the texts of their songs ..Simply look at Céline Dion, and she's the number 1 singer in the world(I should say seller cuz I'm not fan of her :? )...

Ok you can say that Alizée has not the same sucess now with her second album ... But it would have been a miracle to have the same sucess!!! .. She has sold 4 millions discs thanks to her first album .. It's unbelievable for a french artist!!

What about the second one: In France, "JEAM" has been in the Top 10 during 9 weeks .. She has sold 400 000 singles (source Oljo) .. Is it really so bad?

For "JPVA" I agree with you, the charts are disapointing but for the album, it's still in the Top 40 since its releasing 3 months ago .. Is it really bad? ?? Do you really believe that the career of Alizée will end simply because she has a bad classement for one single  .. If it was the rule, all the singers in the world would see their career end ...

You can say it's not as good as the first one, but you can't say it's bad .. And come in France to see how popular Alizée is... And I repeat I hope that the GREAT Mylène farmer will stay with Alizée during all her career .. Here again I invite you to come in France and you will see that the most famous female singer is MYLENE ... For her it's not 8/10 but 10/10.

Mylène and Alizée is the perfect duet...

As much as I love Alizee.....She does mime her songs and doesn't write her own lyrics. So which is her best aspect which would appeal to the people to make her even more popular?

I'm ashamed to say that Alizee is the only foreign artist I like :( I should get into more French music, possibly Mylene Farmer!I have the same problem cafctom. i was lucky to stumble across Alizee( checking cinema listings and she appeared in a big screen nearby and I just stood there watching the video, while others just walk around) and other than french rap and hip-hop, I can't find more info on other artistes as most sites are in French so I just search around for french/european music awards and look out for artistes and bands this way.

I don't know: but I think alizée isn't a real 'adult' star in France, so I think, on the ranking she scores a 1 or a 2.

Alizée, I give you... 9!!! Milene is only known in her country, but Alizée is famous all over Europe, even Russia, Poland, etc. Hey, how many tv adverts have made Milene, Halliday... in JAPAN?? tell me, please... But, unfortunately, it's not the popularity thing. Ali is very talented, and somebody only thinks she's the golden eggs hen, you know, somebody is playing with her career, her life and dreams. Somebody only sees money, not feelings... Ohmigod, she's just 18, and the shady music world (and she's in)... full of business crap. I'm sorry, this is the truth, and in this case I hate the truth. Alizée deserve something better. She doesn't have to be the puppet of anybody, in the pantomime of nobody! But, Ali, the show must go on. Please, just be yourself.

Alizée is the best one right now. The best of all the music history? No doubt, it's Freddie Mercury, my dears...

But if Alizee starts to make inroads in America I think that will do a lot for her popularity.

As an American, I'm thorougly impressed with her.

I am so freaking SICK of hearing Britney-this and Britney-that, as if Americans of a certain age group had only one choice?

They try to tell us that we are free, but then they only give us two choices for President. (The 3rd guy always manages to conveniently fall out of the running, somehow.) It's a lie. We're not free. We eat what is crammed down our throats.

I hope Alizee gets some air play in America. I think the males of the species will be quite pleased with her.

I think she should cover her derriere a little more and be more like her angel, Amelie, in that respect, but there's no denying that the girl is a beauty. And knowing very little about Amelie, the JPVA video had me believing that she was the French version of Britney Spears in popularity. Come to America, Alizee! We are badly in need of the variety! Enough bleached blondes! Let's get some true brunette worship going!

And almost ANY normal person could be a superstar if the powers that be backed them up. Bruce Willis made a hit song, here. Eddie Murphy did, too. And didn't Tracey Ullman also have a hit song?

"We're all fools for this factory fame... and you've got the brand new face." --Natalie Merchant, another entertainer who has plotted her career wisely

What are you talking about? The American form of democracy is simply conducive to a two-party system. The same holds for many other democracies around the world. Concerning your statement that "we are not free," I'm just curious, but are you from the US and have lived here all your life? Just curious...

Concerning your assessment of Britney, yeah, ditch her and bring on Alizee!
