Is anybody here a Football/Soccer fan?
As well as Alizee, Football is a big part of my life, and coming from South London, I am a huge supporter of a club called Charlton Athletic.
If you're a football fan, which football team do you support?
(PS - It would be cool if any of you supported AC Ajaccio  )

Futbol is in my blood, baby!
My favorite teams (by region ):
Spain: Real Madrid, Dep. La Coruna
Italy: Milan, Roma
Argentina: River Plate, Independiente
Brasil: Flamengo, Sao Paulo
Japan: Kashiwa Antlers (hey, why not! )
Ok, I'll stop cause that's probably more than anyone cares to know. But unfortunately all I get here is Mexican soccer and MLS... :? Except some descent games from time to time, like Argentina-Japan or Argentina-Korea these past weeks (both won by Argentina, of course!). Anyway...

I'm football fan. I don't like the name soccer for this noble sport.
American football is not like football so the name football doesn't suit for it.

Nikodemus, you are annoying me! what's your problem with the yankees?? i know a lot of them and they are very cool people and good friends! comments like "americans don't have brainand fitness etc", "europe rules and the rest is just junk" are just a big bunch of BS! that's no political forum in here, didn't you notice that yet? by the way, real madrid is also a big bunch of bullshit *lol* ;) BARCA PER SEMPRE!

you don't have to have good players in one team, you need them to play together....that's what actually makes the strenght of barca
Nikodemus
18th June 2003, 14:16
REAL's superstar can play together and egos helps defenders. Ball can't fit in to the goal cuz Casillas' egos covers the whole goal just like Buffon's ego does.

Yes.
Finish football unfortunately so bad that I can't support any of those finnish teams.
toni_buenrollito
18th June 2003, 19:12
The only finnish soccer player I know is Litamanen, this explain that the finnish teams are not knew around the world...
toni_buenrollito
18th June 2003, 19:13
And I'm not sure that Litmanen is finnish... :P
But Finland doesn´t go so bad at he Eurocope's classification, it's third in his group, above of Yugoslavia and ever close to Italy.
Nikodemus
18th June 2003, 19:20
Yes, Jari Litmanen is finnish and so is the captain of FC Liverpool Sami Hyypiä.
Southhampton's goalie is also finnish Antti Niemi. Finland has about ten good players but that's not enought. Finland's group is always too hard so it's hard to get Finland to for example EURO 2004.
toni_buenrollito
18th June 2003, 19:27
Yes, I also knew Hyypia and Niemi. Don't worry, for example, my team, Spain, lost with Greece and doesn´t win Northern Ireland....
Now the cladification to the Euro is hard for Spain, but I think finnally Spain will be in Portugal.

I'm sorry Nikodemus feels that way about Americans. I can assure u that i am most knowledgable in world soccer than anyone i know in America. I play at competitive level in my area and am captain. I have skill in soccer as well. I agree that Real Madrid is the best. With Ronaldo, Raul, Zidane, Figo, Carlos, and now Beckham...they can beat any team. I like Parma with Hidetoshi Nakata (why not), AC Milan, especially with Shevchenko, Rivaldo, and Rui Costa, Jeventus with Nedved, Davids, Trezeguet, and Thuram. From France I like AC Ajaccio, Olimpique Lyonnais, RC Lens, and Paris Saint-Germain. From the Netherlands i like Ajax O'Brien, and van der Mayde, and PSV Eindhoven. From England i like Manchester United Ryan Giggs, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Paul Scholes, Juan Sebastian Veron, and Rio Ferdinand, Newcastle United Paul Shearer. And in Germany, I like Bayern Munich Oliver Kahn, Micheal Ballack, Bayern Leverkusen Oliver Nueville, Cisse, and Borrussia Dortmund. I am knowledgable about European football a lot more than the MLS in America!

I am under no such illusions about my football knowledge, I will be the first to admit that I know little about world soccer :( . However I do know the Newcastle United striker is called ALAN Shearer and not Paul. Calling yourself a guru at your age is perhaps premature :P

I'm a Liverpool fan myself. Liverpool has got one of the best defenders, Hyypiä, and a very good goalie, Dudek. And of course the best goal scorer in england, Michael Owen.
But Chelsea could be dangerous this year in premier league thanks to the new russian owner. He has spent lots of money on new players.
Although Liverpool are going to win premier league this year.

It's difficult to be a soccer fan in the US. I refereed soccer here for a few years to make $$. It's the best game. I don't understand why people can like American football or baseball more than soccer. In American football, there is very little action. Try timing the total time during a game that there is any action (between hike and ball stopping) - very little. Baseball is mostly about people standing around. It's supposed to be a good game when there is a no-hitter - yawn. If a soccer game ends 0-0, there was a great deal of action. Anyway, I'm glad we get European soccer on cable here.

AlizéeInMYHeart
1st September 2003, 18:34
And what comes to Real Madrid, I don't think that they win the Spanish league this year, even though they have many great players. I think that that's gonna be their fall, having so many stars in the team. Don't think that they can have a good team-spirit the season out.
Sometimes it's better to have a good spirit in the team than worldstar players. For example, take Chievo, that played a sensational season in Serie A two years ago, or Real Sociedad last year.
Nikodemus
1st September 2003, 18:38
Last season Real had lots of superstars and they won the Spanish Primera Liga. Why this wouldn't happen this season?
AlizéeInMYHeart
1st September 2003, 18:54
They were just lucky last year. It was so close that Real Sociedad would have won. Think that this year they are too self-confident to re-new the last years win, that they fall on that.
But, hey, who knows? The champion could be any one of the teams in the league (in teory, don't belive that teams like Murcia stand a chance)
Nikodemus
1st September 2003, 19:05
Well everything is possible but unlikely.
Manu
1st September 2003, 23:57
Wow, you know small teams like Murcia!!? I'm surprised...
Last season, Real Sociedad deserved the championship instead of Real.
They played better, but...
I'd like Barcelona win this season. I also think that a lot of stars may be not so good.

Mmmm... I'm not sure. Perhaps spanish league is stronger. In fact, the four spanish teams are qualified for the next round of Champions. In addition, all the teams of UEFA continue taking part of the championship.... Yeah, Milan, Inter, Roma, Juve are as good as Real Madrid, Valencia, Deportivo or Barça, for example, but Zaragoza, Real Sociedad, Villarreal, Atlético are better than Reggino, Chievo, Peruggia, Udinese...

Yeah! For example, Real Madrid have won three Chapions in the last five years, but only two spanish leagues!!! In Spain we call the league "La liga de las estrellas", this is "Stars´ league". About five or ten years ago, italian league was the better in the world. But now almost everyone think that spanish league is better. Unfortunately, I can't say the same of spanish national team....
